Paint problem due to Cleaner wax
Hey guys, well I decided to take the opportunity and clean my car today since the weather was nice, the tropical depression from Florida finally passed. That's where the good news ends though, I washed my car and dried it like I always do and then I used some Meguiar's cleaner wax which I had used on a small portion of my car a week ago to see if it would work and it did an amazing job of cleaning some discoloration that my paint had. However, I put a layer of the cleaner wax all over my car and when I dried it off there was smudges and just residue left in my paint worse than there was before on the door and some of the back paneling. I tried washing it again, put a second layer of that crap on, and still no luck. What do you guys suggest I use to get this stuff out? I think I may have put too much on or let it dry for too long. I'm thinking my only option is to buff it out, what do guys think would be the best thing to do? Could I wax it and then buff the whole car out or would that just make it worse? Thanks
Though it is not recommended to use dishwashing liquid to regularly clean your car a grease fighting dishwashing liquid IS good at removing coats of wax. A lot of people use it to remove all waxes and stuff before a good clay bar and rewax.
Dishwashing soap might be a good idea. It should strip the wax, which is why you don't want to use it regularly. I'd have to see it but i'd probably use dishwashing soap, then clay bar it. The clay bar should get everything off without a problem. Then wash again with regular car wash and wax it (with a wax you like this time).

I just need a clear and concise answer on what I need to do, I don't want to mess up the paint anymore. What do you guys think I should do? Could I try buffing it out and do you guys honestly think dish detergent is going to get it out? Additionally, do I have anything to worry about in terms of leaving the paint the way it is now or should I go out of my way to take the wax off?
Personally, I would give the car a "vinegar bath" (plain white vinegar, wipe on, wipe off, in the shade). It will take the wax off. Then wax it with the new ICE sythetic liquid polish (easy on, and easy off). And the best thing about the new ICE polish is, no white residue. Good luck
I've had this problem before (black paint). And vinegar was the only thing that would get rid of the wax. No amount of buffing would get it off. Wipe the car with a Microfibre towel soaked with vinegar, then quickly wipe it off with clean towel wet with just water, then a dry towel. Do a small section at a time.

No, it didn't hurt my paint. But you will need another waxing, afterward. Try the clear liquid polish (ice), and you won't have to worry about this happening again.
I still think you should clay bar it under any circumstance. That should get everything off, very safely as well. The only downside is it is a hassle time wise. I would be very suprised it you are disapointed with the results.
