Default What's more efficient?

Ok, I have a 89 CRX with a b16a.
I was wondering if swapping it for a b18c5 would be better and how much it would cost including labor?
Also if I should just stick with the stock or go ahead and swap it?

if you have a b16a in a crx it's kinda hard to keep with stock. B18c5 is going to cost you a lot of money, 4500 or so just for motor and trans.. swap it yourself and save some cash. learn something about your car too. you can do a lot with the b16a you already have, more fun for the buck when compared to the c5 also.

I think you just answered your own question. Budget+K20= never gonna happen. Just sink your money into your B16A, there's a ton of aftermarket parts available and some upgrades that you can swap in from other OEM motors. Search around on here, if you're looking to do something on a budget, I'm sure many people are on budgets here as well (like me) and have found affordable upgrades for their motor. Good luck.

why would you want to get rid of the b16a anyway? the b16 is a great engine just build it up. if you are on a budget then the k20 or the b18c is not for you especially if you are going to be paying someone to do the swap.

btw if you get the b18 or the k20 i'll be more then happy to take that pos b16 of your hands

omg...

I just asked what do you want and i'm getting blown off, yet you listen to drivel spat towards you?

Just get a h23 dawg they be h0t! Is that what you really want to hear? Do you want to end up just going with some stupid bandwagon yelling or do you want to sit down say ok i'm about to spend a chunk of money on a motor swap, I should think this out and find what works well for me.

I will refer you to my first post, think about alot like are you going to daily drive this? will you need smog? How much power do I really want/need? The list keeps going.

Then once you figure all that out, then ask us

I personally would just keep the b16a. You're on a budget and dont have a garage...Just do I,H,E and I'm sure you'll be fine.

It's only a burden when you leave us wondering.

165-190 can be done off a b16 question is how radical do you want to make it?

You can easily hit that off any bseries vtec off a b16 it'll be less streetmannered though.

I would do the normal i/h/e first. then look into a set of ctr cams they will bolt right in and if you put in springs retainers you can rev out more too.

Then you can start thinking where do I want to go next.

search about CTR cams, and dont gulp down info on here with out tasting it

B16A is a JDM engine (for EFs) and is definitely NOT stock . Do your research before you start asking technical questions and bench swapping.

I read through this thread and was suprised to see nobody had mentioned just switching your bottom end with a GSR block, or even a B20 CRV which would make more power than a C5 anyway.
Cost would be much less. Something to think about.

Stick with the b16 just get intake headers and exhaust and later on get some valvetrain and some cams

No sense in buying one at all for the 1hp it makes to the wheels.
Big gains can be had using better cams

roflmao til the ******* cows come home! You ever thought of bein a comedian?

To the OP: It sounds to me you just want to impress your friends.
You should not worry about that.

If you want a reliable daily driver with 165-190hp, just get a GSR long block.
$2k from HMO with S/H, it'll put you right inbewteen your desired range at around 180hp, you can use your B16 tranny voila.
If your more mechanically inclined, then I'd follow Deet'z advice and get yourself a 1.8 block and go from there
