Default 06 Si intake Q's? K&N OEM replacement filter?

I love the sound of my 06 si's stock intake.....but I read that it sounds even better with an aftermarket intake and feels better perhaps...I Like a nice OEM airbox look...how does the K&N drop in feel/sound?
Also is there any airbox replacements out yet like they have for older civics like the mugen ones or the arc? box( idk if thats the right one)...
thanks

Not sure on question one. I already changed to CAI.

Yes, the box is on the dirver side behind the bumper. There is also an additional side duct that goes up the side connected to the box. You may as well change to short ram intake or cold air intake if you are looking to remove the box. Just my opinion.

I recently added a k & N drop-in on my si and it sounds a little more throaty... not super noticeable until you take the RPM a little higher. no real power increase, MAYBE 2-3hp, hard to say for sure. main reason for me getting it is a) it was cheap b) cleanable/reoilabe, wont have to replace the filter itself for a while doesnt void the warranty either

I have the drop in filter as well. I ran my car at the track switching between stock n K&N filters. No difference in 1/4 mile times. I will be dynoing in school in a few weeks. I let everybody here know if there are any gains at all from the K&N

I think the best thing about the K&N intake is the sound... the car SOUNDS like its an SI now instead of just a civic. Before sure you rev real high it gets a little sound to it... now you rev real high and people will know to move.

anyone just pull the front tube off the airbox (the big one that goes down to the resonator)?

the fg2 doesnt come with a "CAI" stock. the filter sits IN the engine bay. It does have extra ducting and **** for performance and acoustic reasons but its definantly not a cold air intake.

it works just like a cold air though, but the filter is enclosed. The filter is surrounded by the engine bay, but still feeds from air outside of the engine bay. This way with the filter up high, you wouldn't have to worry about using bypass valves. It's more restrictive then getting an aftermarket intake, but it generally is a cold air design.

Also I hear that the oil from the K&N filters tend to ruin the MAF sensors. Just a rumor though. I haven't been using mine. I just bought it for dyno and track testing purposes. I didn't seem to notice any gains of power or sound though for the short periods that I switched to K&N. But we'll see when I get the dyno results. It'll be about 3 weeks though. I get to dyno for free at school, but it'll be a little more time. I'll keep everyone posted

Practically every single stock air intake system has ducting that feeds cooler air into the inlet box... still doesnt make it a cold air intake system, but whatever you wanna call it , its effective and practical.

And yea the oil from a foam element filter can coat the MAF wire/sensor and give false readings to the ECU resulting in a CEL, but hey thats what a warranty is for right?! And IMO as long as you dont soak the filter with an absurd amount of oil you wont have any problems

Not worth doing if you are going to loose power. Why don't you just change the intake to SRI or CAI.
