Default Rear disc conversion question...

I have a 88 si and am going to put a 93 GSR rear end on it... What is the correct or best master cyl. and proportioning valve to match up with the rear end? I have heard a bunch of different opinions on what to use... I tried to search but had no luck... Thanks in advanced!

hondas dont have a rear end you shouldnt have to change out the master cylinder or anything go to the bone yard and take the whole control arm off a civic with rear disk brakes its not complicated

there's a few ways to go.

you don't NEED a bigger master cylinder unless you're upgrading your front brakes, too. Your pedal will be a little lower, but not low enough to be a huge deal.

proportioning valve? there's two main ones, depending on what you're doing.

if you're not upgrading the front brakes, the proportioning valve off a 90-91 crx si will be perfect.

if you ARE upgrading the front brakes, one off a DA integra without abs (abs cars have it integrated into the abs unit, iirc) would be perfect. i think the number on it is 4040, but it's been a while. look it up.

My civic has a DA integra one with the stock front brakes, and rear disc brakes. It stops fine, it's not very noticibly off balance. it seems slightly too rear-biased because my rear tires will slightly lock up on a bumpy road, but that could just be my bad shocks. I'm not dumb enough to slam on my brakes in a turn.

Some people argue that the drum brake prop valve is fine, some people argue it isn't. some people have had problems with it "holding pressure" to the rear wheels, and some people haven't. maybe there's two drum brake prop valves?

anyway, any prop. valve (as long as it doesn't hold pressure to the rear brakes) can be used, however, if you're looking for a braking upgrade, use the right one, as disc brakes barely help at all, and when you start putting "almost as good" parts in, it's more like a downgrade.

that being said, i put discs on my car because i had them, i hate working on drums, and it was cheaper than the new wheel cylinders, brake lines, shoes, drums, and hardware kits that my old brakes needed to be safe.

Huh? what the hell are you tryin to say.. I know its not hard.. im asking about what size of master cyl. and which proportioning valve... Like I said.. I already have the entire rear end of a 93 gsr i.e. trailing arms and everything attached to it...

ok well this is what I have layin around... i have the stock 88 si master cyl. and booster along with the stock 88 si propro. valve, of course... and a master cyl. from a 91 crx si, a 2040 propor. valve and a 4040 propor. valve... what would be the best setup I could put together with those parts? Or should I look for different ones? oh and Im leaving all the discs and calipers the stock sizes... and yeah.. I really hate workin drum brakes too...

There's your answer. Your stock MC should work with this setup.

To paraphrase bagpipe goatee's response: If you're doing the fronts as well, use a non-ABS MC and 4040 valve from a DA Integra.

So if im gonna keep the stock crx rakes in the front and the stock GSR's in the rear... other than the stock 88 CRX Si master cylinder and booster, what would be the next best choice?

And what is the number for the proportioning valve off of a 90-91 CRX Si?
