Pulling a motor outta the junkyard?
I got the idea of pulling a complete motor out of a yard. The motor would be a gsr(b18c), and presumably either blown up or in non running condition. My question is even if the motor was blown would it be worth it for me to pull one out and build it up from the bottom end up? I don't enjoy the 3,200$ dollar price tag for one running and I figure I can build one for a bit cheaper.

What wouldn't I want to be getting myself into? I know a motor with completely blown apart pistons and the cylinder walls really messed up, or a hole in the block is a no no. Anything else?
quite honestly, if you have to ask what else to avoid... you shoud look at other alternatives to a motor.
You definitely don't want to fall into a money pit of an engine were eventually you have all new parts in it.

start looking around at how much it would cost for parts and any machine work you may need. You may be surprised at how much not cheaper it may be. What is your time frame and your ability, and what about money. All things to think about
Blown motors (IE. thrown rod, cracked block, siezed cylinders, hydrolocked, throwing the rod out of the cylinder) are a no no.
Now if it has something like a blown head gasket, spun bearings, cracked head are ok, because it wont be that much of a pain to replace.
