Default Fuel pump question (4th Gen)

Hey guys, im running very rich on my 92 SI. I'm getting only 17 mpg mixed highway and city. im pulling a code 43, faulty or failing fuel pump. could that be the reason for my awful mileage? where is the fuel pump located on a 92 lude? how do i access it? is there anyway of taking it out and cleaning it, or should i just get a new one? If anyone has a step by step for me to remove the pump, i would be realy grateful.

Thanks as always,
Joey

if it's setup like the 5th Gens. it's located under the rear seat. You'll have to take out your back seat to access the fuel pump

4th gens are the same. Take the whole back seat out, seat cross member and floor board in the trunk.

They're easy to take out. I have an extra one, but it's for a 5th Gen. Not sure if they both use the same though. If they do, I'll sell it for cheap

I'm not sure the 5th gen pump fits in a 4th gen. Looking at the part numbers, they are slightly different.

http://www.slhondaparts.com/, compare the PN on here.

what do you mean by the seat cross member? that huge thing that runs through the middle of the lude? is it a hassle to take off? how would i do it please?

I removed the back seats (lower part). Do i also have to remove the upper part of the rear seats?

Thanks a bunch

Yes, it's all 10mm bolts. Take it off otherwise getting the pump in and out is a real pain in the ***.

Ok so i took out all the seats and the center console and stuff only took me like 30 mins or so. Now how do i remove the pump and install another one in? is it fairly simple? is there anything i should be careful of or do?

Thanks!

Remove 10mm bolts and feed/return lines. Lift pump up. Install is pretty much just like the dissassembly.

p.s. Go buy a service manual.

Don't forget to unhook your battery before removing your fuel pump

Could also be a clogged fuel filter or injectors.....

I don't know if everyones was like this but for my fuel pump I had to twist it 180* and pull up while trying to get it around the feed line... seemed harder than it should've been. Not that it was HARD...

i guess i could change the fuel filter while im at it... but i changed it less than 50k (50,000KM's not Miles) Ago... at the same time i had my injectors cleaned... im getting a CEL code 43 so im pretty sure it's the pump. I also have a huge hesitation problem when i drive the car after it's been sitting for more than an hour... it'll lose power and then regain it. once i accelerate past 4,000 rpm and i kick it a little, the problem goes away!

yeah I had close to the same problem minus the CEL. It's more than likely your pump

I just installed my walbro 255lph for my turbo setup and i just took out the spare tire cover in the trunk and changed it that way...I didnt have to remove anything else. There are 8 10mm nuts and a 17mm bolt that held the line on.... It would be nice to have a pair of pliers to remove the vent hose from up top... I also had to twist it 180 degrees to remove...I feel this was easier than taking out the back seat.

i replaced mine a few months back. i went ahead and removed all the back seat supports you see right there and made it alot easier. after i took all that out though, i didnt feel like putting it all back in lol. i think ill just carpet over the open space

good luck its pretty straight forward from here.
