96 prelude seat install into 89 hatch
well ive had some prelude seats for about a month and half and i really wanted to install them. so i removed the old seats to find the that 89 hatch seats have way narrower seat rails. none of the 4 holes line up. well the stock VINYL seats were just not cutting it anymore. i tried to do a seat pan swap but that wasn't working. now if someone is trying this and they are going for that show car quality, then read no further. but my car has a salvaged title and many numerous problems so function was definately higher on the list than form. well here it goes.
my first though was to drill and tap holes but the metal just isn't thick enough.
also, because of how the prelude seat rails are designed they would be at such an incline that the seat can't travel all the way back. so what i did was.
i had 1 and 5/8" spacers made out of steel to raise the back of the seat up.
then i lined that seat up and drilled holes where the front of the bracket would mount. then i drilled another next to that one and used what is called a speed nut.
it acutally worked alot better than i thought it would.
Then, for the rear, i bought some long bolts and drilled straight down through the floor. i used a large washer and a nylok nut to hold it down. all in all it ended up turning out quite nicely. the seats are really secure. unfortunately i dont have any pics of while i was actually doing the work but i have one of the spacer and of course the finish project. also the seats match pretty well with the 91 si rear seats that i have.

front outside:

spacer although its kinda blurry. its 1 and 5/8: tall and 1.5" wide:

thanks for looking!
