Nigel,
Your video looks great! It was good to meet you at STPR. Did you go to the X games with Jon? Can you share specs. on your setup? The engine sounds great!

Hey Evan, yep, we went to the x-games! it was a blast! we didn't get much coverage being in 2wd but was fun playing with the big teams. i have some in-car video of Jon's car at the stadium too, i haven't encoded it yet though.
as for my integra, it's an ex-grand-am cup car .. a gsr shell, gsr motor but i'm not sure what's been done to it .. definatly cammed and not ported though. i just put on a skunk2 manifold. type-r trans w/ mugen diff.
moton shocks w/ 700/1100lbs springs, 26mm rear bar, stk from bar.
we race on street tires, hankook k104.
the yellow/red civic is a K20, the rsx's are all K20's and the other integra i'm trying to catch is a K24 .. in our rules we pretty much all have the same weight, so i'm having alot of trouble keeping up on the straights

it's a canon elura 100 minidv .. only 379$?US. i highly recommend it! shoots in widescreen 16:9 and the stabilization is really good. also has a video input if you want to use an external bullet camera. the wind noise isn't bad either considering both windows are open.
only thing it's missing is a wired remote or a light on the front that tells you when it's recording .. you're forced to look at the screen/view finder to make sure it's on which is a pain when it's mounted.
the battery last about an hour and a half of record time.

Nigel,
Can't wait to see your X-games footage. ESPN seemed to have a tight hold on all the media. Did you guys film the gravel stages? Rough. I used to mountain bike those fireroads, tough stuff.
Your car, sounds great, looks down on pull from the newer civic, but looks like it has some cornering power. I'm very interested in motor right now, my car is straight gutless and Jon's VW is an inspiration on what a light 2wd rally car should be. I'm researching some bolt-ons, but know it's going to take some compression to make Jon type power.....
What's your 2cents on making the type of power Jon's doing from a Honda B18C5?
I've got to be at least 200lbs. heavier, but can't do much more about that....

Awesome video Nigel, and a well-deserved result. You really showed some of the more experienced guys what a rookie can do. Excellent driving!

unfortunatly i installed the camera in the car late and all we recorded was transit time because of an accident at the begining of a stage.
the terrain was pretty rough, we broke a tie rod, the arm snaped in two and broke the cv joint just a few meters from the end of the last stage, they managed to push the car to the end!

Jon's car isn't as light or as powerfull as it could be, but it's really strong and reliable , which is what you need to finish stages.. and Jon can *really* drive!
imho, work on beefing the suspension, chassis, reliability, tires and you'll probably get a better return than power mods.
also low end torque is probably more important in rallying that road racing .. can't always keep it in vtec.
i asked Jon last week how to improve my confidence .. he said "learn to scrub off speed really fast when you get in trouble!"

I had fairly developed suspensions and reliability packages in my last two rally cars, and they were both gutless (even though one was a turbocharged PGT car), quick in corners, but gutless. For this car I want to go more engine. I've never really had a car with rapped ape under the hood. The suspension for this car will get to the same place and even more than the other cars, despite an early setup....
I want big torque, seems most of these all motor forums are all about ultimate hp for drag.
You forgot one more badass thing about jon's car...the gearbox!

save up for a K24
exhaust in the rear also .. maybe you'll get better ground clearance!?

oh ya
he didn't have much choice though, the stock vw trans couldn't take the beating
have you looked at any dog-box kits for hondas?

K24 yea!
If I had a K24, then I'd need a new gearbox anyway.....
No, I think this engine will be fine, I'm just going to have to build it up, not to the all motor level, but something a bit under. I thought about boost, but really want to see what NA can do. Jon is again the benchmark, I though he'd be faster than he was at STPR? Was he just not taking chances or issues with the car?
My gearbox is good, but it's going to need a better diff. and final drive, which are in the works for next year.
Yea, the vw trans were not good. That gearbox is a real machine. He's had that a long time, since when we use to run in Canada and Quebec ~1999.
Were testing this weekend on gravel, so excited about that. I only got 6 miles at STPR......
