Default What are headunit faceplates made out of?

Hi guys!! ^-^

I just bought an used headunit, but the faceplate has scratches on it!!

So I am just wondering if you know what these faceplates are generally made out of (plastic)? And if I can use Meguiars Scratch X to clean it!

Thanks!

my bad, lol. You can try it. Its hard to say what manufactors use in there product. plastic is what most of them use. Try it on a small spot before doing the whole thing

Gee. Thanks for not answering the question...

As stated previously, you could try the Scratch X, but do so on a small spot...

I would think that Scratch X should work pretty well... It works on headlights, so I bet it'll work on a faceplate, too...

reading and comprehension owns you. i said you can order the front COVER of the faceplate. i didnt say anything about a whole face. usually a front cover is less than $30.

call pioneer parts , and ask for a grille assembly, ar call pacific coast parts, and ask for a faceplate front cover for alpine. ive worked at a pioneer, kenwood, clarion, jvc, visteon, and delco warranty center for the past 7 years, i think i know what im talking about. if youll take your faceplate off and look at it it comes apart and you can buy almost all the pieces individually.

If this is true..I'm going to have to check this out! What about buttons? I want to replace one of my buttons on the Alpine 2004 head-unit, I definitely want my faceplate cover replaced because it is scratched as well. Damn I just checked pacparts.com and the closest thing they have for my Alpine CDA-9835 is

SU-00595Z01 DETACHABLE FACE ASSY IN STOCK $215.00
01T75274Y01 DISPLAY IN STOCK $109.81

I got excited.

Edit: To the OP, if you do get a chance to try to use Meguiars Scratch X, or Toothpaste method (as FCM stated), LMK how it works out for u.

^^^^ well if you read my list youll see the brands we normally do warr. work to.
we usually dont do alpine, but we have done a couple in the past when it was
something simple. but every brand we do repair almost every part of the face is
replaceable. the front and rear covers, buttons, lamps(older faceplates), light
pipes, the main board, all the components on the board, lcd screen, metal frame
that holds the lcd screen, screws, ribbon cables, springs, etc. if youll remember a
few years back when pioneer had the decks with rubber buttons that kept peeling
and coming completely apart until there was a hole in the face where the button
used to be. they replaced those front face covers free of charge, even if it was
out of warr., all we did was call pioneer and get auth. numbers to repair if out of
warr. because they knew it was a manufacturer defect. so think about it if the only
way they sold it was a whole faceplate it would have cost them tons of money, because most of those units had oel displays, which at that time were a little over
$300 just for the lcd display.
