umm lets see, its not that hard.
total miles that tank/total gas added

My b/f and I have gotten 5.5lt/100 km (42.7mpg) on one trip and average around 6.2lt/100km (37.9 mpg) most of the time.
We stop filling the tank once the nozzle shuts off (don't try to fill to an even $). We have the VBP Sport M/T on the stock LK/DX rims. When accelerating we generally shift up ~2,500rpm and on the highway try to stay around 3,500 rpm at the most. It doesn't give you the wildest ride, obviously, but it's doing wonders for our fuel economy.
Also, about 40-50% of our driving is done in cities or stop-n-go on Toronto's 400-series highways.

Your not nuts. You're just not too good at making measurements and recording data. You're especially not good at reporting it. What does once or more times mean?
No one here has yet described how they accurately recorded fuel used over a certain time period, over certain road conditions, at a certain speed, with ac on or off, with amount (weight) of fuel in the tank, their own weight, passenger or not, etc....
So if you're gonna make interesting statements about amazing mpg you better back up your claims. We will tear you a new one if you don't or if your data is bogus.

Well fit fokker you tear me a new one. Here are the facts. I usually fill the tank at the half way mark. I start the pump and let it pump until it auto stops everytime. I have checked the mpg at every fill up for my honda base manual since brand new. I now have 4300 miles. on 8/29/06 the fill up was 6.07 gallons I rounded it to 6 for the math. My oddometer read 278.6 miles driven. I came up with 46.43 mpg. The refill before that doing city driving reads 312.3 miles driven and 8.33 gallons of gas used for 37.49 mpg. Before that one 114 miles driven and 4.25 gallons of gas burned for 36.88 mpg.
My worst mpg is 28 and my previous best was 38.5. I had been averaging 35 to 36.
It simply has increased... no lie you can count on this info as accurate. What makes this so impresive is I do alot of short trips for the city driving.
I buy chevron regular gas and use the highest gear possible and I dont drag race at the lights. I am a lucky guy....

Generally after a good break in you can expect a good 1-2mpg bump
Sounds about right for a Fit thats well driven --- check your monrony --- the fit can get well over 40mpg if driven properly (to acheive those results)

Ive gotten 47mpg on a 93 mile trip, 100% interstate and cruise control driving, ~75mph. Thats the only time Ive gotten over 40 though.
This is on a Sport manual.

one or more times means exactly that...i understood what the OP was stating...
all people need to show is miles of travel / gallons used...very simple math...

well it was not very clear to me. 46mpg on a long flat highway drive with no traffic i could believe. he just never stated that. i could say my car went 400 miles without using any gas.......................................cuz it was on a flatbed oh! j/k lol
To be honest I like to mention details and learn. I did not provide details because it had been a long day for me. The truth is simple works most of the time. If any one is genuinly interested in the scientific info they would start a new thread or contact me by message. I made an error and posted this on the civic site so if you like more details read this: you are not going to believe this I have a new record gas milege. 46.4 yes and I am doing backflips. my previous two tanks Ive done 36 and 37.
Well what are the conditions for my driving. Well I own a base manual fit with 4300 miles. I drove 130 miles with AC on 50% of the time. I drove 65 to 75 and experience some slow down for about 20 minutes driving 40mph. On the way home it was different. Temp was in the high 60s and there was a cross wind of about 20 miles per hour also it rained a little bit and finally for 30 minutes I experienced stop and go traffic.
my previous best was 38.5 and my worse is 28. I seem to average around town 36 and some change.
I thought 40 would be great but 46.4 wow. I am so glad I did not buy a volkwagon TDI
What do you think about this and is there any one else out there with such impres

47 mpg is impressive I wish I had the Cruise controll feature. Its the only thing I greatly wanted for my fit manual. I usually buy a car with 50% down and I did not do this so I could not justify getting the sport model for $1800 more. The good new is I plan to pay the car off in 28 payments.

If you alter your driving style enough (easy on the throttle, short-shifting (going from 2-4 instead of 2-3-4), going under 70mph on the freeway, you can squeeze more mileage out of ANYTHING.
The best I've gotten out of my CX is 45mpg. It's feasible.

So what do you mean by short shifting? I beleive I do this already. I spend little time in each gear until I reach the biggest gear possible. It is not speed shifting. I shift my car like I shift my road bicycle. That would be alot.

That wasn't clear???
Go from 1st to 2nd briskly--get 2nd to a pint where 4th won't bog, and then shift to 4th.
This way the car is accellerating fo a minimum time and you maximize your time loafing along in a higher gear. It improves city mileage MASSIVELY. Read about this technique in a few places and didn't believe it until I did it myself.
As fo the highway--the difference in mileage you get at 70mph vs. 80mph is massive. Aeordynamic drag increases geometrically as speed increases. The more drag, the worse mileage.

Wive's tales AFAIK.
I've never had tranny issues and I've been rev matching pretty much since I learned to drive (driving since 1988).
Some theorize extra wear on the sychros, but I think it's a negligible amount if any.

I'm in my break-in period and its a pain because I commute 60 miles each way every day, mostly freeway so i'm changing RPM constantly. I am getting 33mpg (City and freeway) right now because of break-in shannanangans. Should I expect this to increase once I dn't have to change RPM all the time?

Correct except that it increases exponentially, by the velocity squared to be exact. I drive a combination city, stop/go traffic, 80 mph freeway, 60 mph freeway and I get a lousy 29.6 mpg. I have just over 5k miles. I'm still skeptical about the 40+ mpg. I won't believe till I can do it myself.
