Which is a good h22?
i am going to buy a h22 block. I need to know that if a h22a closed deck block is good or is a h22a4 open deck block good? what im trying to say which one of these are better?
well...for the most part, closed deck is going to be a bit stronger. but, honestly, i have seen the same power levels from closed and open deck h22's, with no difference in reliability. the weakest link in the h22 is the ringlands, which will be the same for both blocks. really..i would just find the nicest, cheapest block.
wow!! if turbo is your plan go w/ the closed deck JDM block but you will most likely have to get it sleeved anyway. the JDM has 10.6:1 compression which is a little high for boost and to lower the compression means new pistons which means you cant get stock so you would have to go w/ MAHLE pistons which arent guaranteed to work w/ the FRM sleeves. just trying to get you to slow down and think a little. the F series is a better platform, but no one uses it.
if on a budget, yes, f22 is a good platform. or, if you don't feel like swapping motors. but, you can still boost on stock h22 internals, with a tune, to 8psi or so. that is all the higher you can go with an f22 as well. but, at the same psi, the h22 is going to make more power. don't underestimate the advantage having more intake and exhaust valves per cylinder. if you are preparted to swap motors, boosted h22 > boosted f22.
i would go with a 98+ open deck h22a4 for turbo + nitrous. the open deck blocks are cheaper to sleeve and the 98+ have larger main bearings. this is the one i would use

You mean an extra cam, right? Both engines have 4 valves per cylinder.
