obd1 ecu should work fine. but for some reason its not. i noticed that the fuel pump wasnt priming. so i flashed the ecu and that made the fuel pump prime but it still doesnt start. now im even more confused. after several times of doing this now the gauge clkuster is going crazy. car still wont start but with the ignition on all the way. the speedometer jumps like crazy and makes a very weird but distinct ticking noise coming from under the dashby my feet. and if i trry and crank the motor both the speedometer and tachometer jump like crazy. car worked and ran fine previous to head and manifold swap. had a full y7 in the car previously with obd1 cx distibutor

You have something wrong in your wiring. The jumping speedo and the ticking is a dead giveaway and the fact that the fuel pump won't prime when you turned the car on also. Go back and check your conections and grounds. I bet this is your problem. The grounds on the thermostat housing especially. For whatever reason, that ground is crucial in these cars. This is where your trouble lies.

figured out part of it. apparently their was a alarm wired into all of the wires under the dash. removed the alarm and rewired everything. pump primes and i have spark but the car just backfires. timing is messed up i must have the wrong dizzy.

that distributor should deffinitly work, double check your firing order...and your positive that timing is dead on?
