Default Anyone know if any sensors are affected by MAGNETS?

Does anyone know if any sensors are affected by a magnet? I'm asking because I want to but a BFM (big fcking magnet) on my oil filter, but didn't want to screw up anything in the process.

Any insight would be helpful

Ignorance is bliss, I guess. Many Honda sensors use magnetic pickups and could be screwed up by having an abnormally powerful magnetic field in the engine bay. Not sure why anyone needs to put a huge magnet on their filter - I haven't known a single well-maintained Honda to die because of particles escaping the oil filter.

If you have that much metal getting into the filter, your problem is much more severe than filtration anyhow.

MAGNETS + any electrical parts = electrical parts being altered somehow.

hmm, thats very true, if you can name one of those sensors thats within a foot of the oil filter i will give you a cookie. google searching to argue w/ me in a thread because i proved you wrong in another thread doesnt go over well w/ me. so mr. im always right, what sensors on the car more specifically his EG, will be altered by a magnet???? im sure you have no clue, and if you do answer its from looking through pages and pages of info today at work to try to show me up again.

my point is: magnets do alter the signal of a sensor, but not many of the sensors on the hondas use a squarewave pattern. the only ones i can think of right now of the top of my head are abs sensors, crank angle sensor, and camshaft position sensor. NON of these are anywhere near the oil filter.

and of coarse i knew this yesterday, not 5minutes ago. i just didnt feel like explaining how magnets effect sensors.

putting a "big *** magnet" on the filter is a waste of time anyway.

Damn, these were the only ones I could think of off the top of my head also.

One other thing that might be affected are relays, depending on where you may have some (if you have any) in your engine bay. Most likely none would be near the oil filter.

I love the threads where the tech answers never get responses. Like now how Pbanto hasn't responded in like 10 posts. Makes it seem like he posted it to keep us busy. Like a huge h-t conspiracy.

Oh please, like I spend time on H-T to stir up ****.

I don't spend 100% of my time on the forum. I posted, left, and checked on it the next day. You guys swear like I posted a question that's been asked before..

But yeah, now I know which sensors are affected, and yes, I know I don't have that much metal going into the filter, but if i'm ALREADY spending $5 or so on a magnet, I might as well make it one that fully fits on the endcap of an oil filter.

Thanks guys.

You know, they make magnetic oil drain plugs. I hear they're nifty.
