I think its kinda funny that they have full accomodations for a passenger (seat pad, grab handles, footpegs and all).
Wish I had a toy like that when I was 15...looks fun!

I wouldnt be embarrased at all 
you might think its all puny and shitty, but these kinda bikes handle well, and atleast in japan, racing mini-bikes like these are VERY competitive. most of the GP riders start there, from the 50cc what you call "embarrasing" motorcycle.

most of those 50cc bikes are 2 strokes. they haul ***...
2 strokes have more power in a different way compared to equal cc 4 strokes.
a 250 cc gp 2 stroke is quick...a 500cc GP 2 stroke is even faster...
you cannot compare a nsr 250 to a ninja 250 4 stroke...nor a 500cc nsr to a 500cc ninja........not at all....the 2 strokes are wayyyy fast.

They're a lot of fun, if you want to ride ***** to the wall without getting tickets

high pitched sound... yes correct, most 2-stroke motorcycles have a very high pitch sound. Im not sure about the law in US, but you can basically register any motorcycle legally if you have all the lights and stuff hooked on.
