Default weird timing problems with a ls timing

its an ls block ls head itr pistons gsr water pump b16 oil pump and gsr timing belt (i checked the cam gears before putting them in and they are the same as my gsr cam gears) anyways i double trippel and quadrople checked my valve timing and it is dead on but this is how the dizzy has to sit for it to run somewhat decent...

and here are the cam gears after running for a while (i know they are not at TDC neither is the #1 & #4 cyl but you get the idea the timing is still on so the teath are not off at all)

double, triple, and quadruple check the cam timing again.

It looks like the intake cam is one tooth off, which would explain why the dizzy has to be there for the car to run properly. It's a simple fix

ill double check it again tomorrow and give you detailed pics but didint go by the cam marking you know the holes in the camshafts them self you can drop an allen key in so when you pull off the timing belt they dont turn those are the holes i went by when i went TDC on the cams... maybe i was off on the crank but i used a extention to find TDC on #1 cuz i went by the mark at first and thought i was off... so as far as i can see its dead on...

i am using a dohc vtec dizzy and i also have a socketed p28 with a ls/vtec base map in it but as far as i knew none of that made a difference as long as i kept it under 5100 witch is where the vetc x over point is

Try a LS distributor instead of a GSR. I'm pretty sure that they are different.

you really need to run the correct ECU. it would cost maybe $10 to have an LS .bin burned on a chip and shipped to you, and i garentee it would run better. probably not your timing issue, but none the less, its something thats not right.

Get the correct timing belt and distributor. And of course, redo your timing. I'm sure it's off by more than a "tooth".

agreed, the deck height between an LS head and GSR head are totally different, hence different timing belt lenghts, it may seem like it's right but it's not, deffinetely get a timing belt for an LS but keep the GSR one around for your LS/VTEC cuz you're gonna need it.

an ls timing belt wont work because of the gsr waterpump and b16 oil pump and the cam gears are the same between a gsr and a ls so the belt is not the problem expecialy since i drove the motor 23 miles and all the timing marks are still dead on

im goin to have a chip burnt with stock ls maps today and iacv today so ill see how it runs later

Did you already check the cam timing again or can you at least take a better Goddamned picture so we can rule out a slipped cam tooth? Jesus Christ, man: we've already given you every possible solution. It's up to you to fix it now. Either give us more to work with or go start turning wrenches. I'm good, but I can't fix your car from here.

it might look a tooth off but its just the angle i took the pic at when i lined it up by eye it was straight
the crank pulley is from a b16 but im prety sure the timing marks are the same

ttt anyboy running a similar setup and had this problem.

the motor was built to be an ls/vtec but the head i have has a bad valve seat so i had to put an ls head ont it (hence the gsr waterpump timing belt, and b16 oil pump and gsr dizzy)

its also got ITR pistons and arp rod bolts and acl bearings but that has nothing to do with nothing

but as many times as i turn this motor over its still dead on

Yeah, the timing looks dead-on man. Wow. Grab the proper dizzy and see if that works.

nah the dizzy and vtec solinoid/pressure switch are the same (dizzy on intake v/s, and p/s on exhaust)

now its just running like **** but i think the problem is with that i/m im running so im gona take a complete manifold from a good running 95 ls and put that on and see what happens

i also got a stock ecu last night but it still runs pretty bad
