sohc vtec on f22a1
i was planning on rebuilding my engine and putting a h22 or h23 dohc vtec head on it, but those seem kind of hard to come by and pretty expensive when you do. so i was just wonder if the sohc vtec head off of the f22a2 or f22b1 would fit directly on my block. or would i have to do and hole plugging or anything of that nature. also i'm assuming i'd need the ecu from the accord w/ the vtec engine but correct me if i'm wrong and please let me know anything else that i might need. the head is on a car in a junkyard so i was planning on rebuilding it but it doesn't seem that to many company's make after market valve train parts for that particular engine. so if any of you know of any place that does please let me know. thanks!
I don't think I've heard of the F22A2. Only the F22A1, F22A4 and F22A6. But to my knowledge no F22Ax is VTEC anyway.
Do a search for that headswap. It's been covered before. Here is a thread that is linked in the FAQ, I know there are others, just search the archives for them.
F22B1 VTEC Headswap
for aftermarket parts for the F22's, try a site called F22Parts. T.A.S. Auto also carries some F22 parts. There are other sites that carry parts but you have to search. Check the FAQ thread at the top of the page, there are websites listed at the end, start with those.

nope, it's not.
nope, it's not.
The F22A6 was non-VTEC, as TouringAccord mentioned. The difference was the IAB intake manifold, which other F22Ax engines did not have. The first VTEC F-series was the F22B1.
I've also been told the F22A6 camshaft and exhaust manifold were different from the other F22Ax motors, all adding up to the difference in power between them.

Ya know, I think I remember hearing about a different cam, but I totally forgot about it. From what I saw, the exhaust manifold is the same as the EX (f22a4), but I could be wrong.
Eh, I'm too lazy right now to look up part numbers.

well, I'm not exactly sure what motor comes in what model but... the 90-93 LX, DX have the same. The 90-91 EX, SE have the same. The 92-93 EX, SE have the same. All three different from the other. What model engines each of those are I'm not real sure. Thats all based off of looking on HAP.
My understanding was that the f22a6 came in the SE, and the EX in the '93 model. It could be that I have it mixed up with a Canadian model or something.
Essentially, it's how you would identify what car/engine the ECU was designed to work with. It's part of the part number.
As an example, here is a list of different ECUs for different Hondas: http://www.superhonda.com/tech....html
The full p/n would look something like this: 06164-POA-AOO
