There's a little plug under the passenger side dash..... You basically take a paper clip and jump it. Turn the key to the on position and watch how many times the check engine light flashes. One long flash will count as 10, and the quick flashes will count as 1. ie: 3 long flashes and 5 short flashes = code 35

If you have a CEL code, it should constantly be on while your driving. but If it turns on randomly, possibly have a bad ecu..someone correct me if im wrong. But thats what happened to me, my CEL code would turn on when i hit vtec, i jumped the CEL code and it was my knock sensor.. took it my friend shop found out the ECU was just bad.

, saves you lotta $$ from having to go to some autoshop who has a ecu reader. And this paperclip procedure only takes like a mnute.

So you find the diagnostic port under the passenger side and jump it with a paper clip, is there a spicific place or port where you place the paper clip???

There are instructions in the service manual (at the start of the Fuel and Emissions section) on how to interpret the blinks. The manual also lists all the possible codes, and also gives the page number containing the diagnostic procedure to follow if you find that code.
If you have any intention on working on your own car, you need (and probably already own) a copy of the service manual. If you don't already have one, you can buy one here.
