Default Are those special sockets needed for the thermal vacuum switches ?

Vehicle: 94, Accord, EX, V-TEC

Are those special sockets need for the thermal vacuum switches ? The tooltruck guys sell the ones I am referring to. A local guy has them on sale. But what size do I need? For some reason I only ever see them in fractional sizes and I know Honda is all metric (I assume so)?

I don't know about everyone else but I don't know what "special" sockets your are referring to. Could you elaborate on what this socket looks like or what kind of fitting you know it's used on?

Go to this web address: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog...store

Note: there are other sizes available, such as 19mm, for Honda, but they are not listed on the website, only avaiable on the trucks. The catalogs show some of them. Btw, some of these sockets have cutouts on both sides.

So your asking if that special socket is needed and if so what size you need?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what part are you trying to replace? a thermal vacuum switch? I've never heard of that. Did a Google search and everything that popped up showed GM but no pictures for reference. Do you have a picture, location or another name for it maybe?

Yes, it was just a general question whether they are needed for Accords. Also, I work on other cars, so, I would be inclined to grab a deal on them, if I knew it was likely that I would need them sooner or later. And yes again, GM is definately a vehicle that is always associated with that special socket. But the catalog mentions one of them being used on Hondas, although it does not specify what M/Y Honda.

Never heard of it before... but it looks just like an O2 sensor socket.

I can't say that you would need one on an Accord.

I do remember, can't think of where, seeing a diagram of a socket like that being used to remove a O2 sensor. But you can just use an open end wrench to do that.

But if you have a use for the set and it'll make your life easier then by all means go ahead and get it.

edit:
philadd got to it first

Special Sockets, eh? And you said the tool truck guy said you need em? Well, have I got a deal for you!!!

For a limited time, I have the hard-to-find "Barnum and Baily" model wratchet wrench. Its the only wrench ever made to address the almost impossible job of replacing the headlight fluid.

For as little as $59.95, I'll sell you one of these brand new (and un-used) wrenches. You'll be the envy of every vehicle service technician.

i have never seen or heared of a thermal vacuum switch on a honda.

I would not even buy that style of socket for o2 sensor removal as Snap On has a better design available.

other sensors that screw in i just use a deep socket on since the o2 sensor is the only one that has a pigtail still attached.
