Default Clutch wont disengage, weird background story.

motor: jdm obd1 B18c with lsd gsr tranny

Ok, so the problem first. When the car is off, I can shift gears, with or without the clutch depressed. However, if I start the car in neutral, I cannot shift to any gear, and if i try to shift to reverse, it makes a grind and will not go into gear. Something else worth knowing is that if i start trying to "force" it into first (just pushing into first WITH clutch depressed), it tries to move forward. Once the front end is jacked up, I can start the car with it in first, and with the clutch depressed, and yet its as if the clutch isnt even pressed. The wheels start moving. The Clutch will not disengage, please help me.

Background: I just replaced the valves, valvetrain, and cams. Everything went great and the car starts and runs great! HOWEVER, the car will not go into gear now once its on. The biggest thing that has me wondering is why it all of the sudden is having problems when before i did the headwork, there wasnt a THING wrong with the tranny. The car sat since tuesday, and i just finished the headwork today. Did the pressure plate seize up in a matter of days?

You can try bleeding your clutch solenoid. Give that a shot, is your clutch fluid low?

What you just described is almost the EXACT same problem I had a while ago, no joke, I ended up having to replace my clutch.

I was going to take the tranny off today to check the same issue...This sucks.

No more suggestions before I tear the car back apart?

Ok, tranny is still in car, but I checked out every other possible problem and everything else works (slave and master are fine). The arm is still stiff (requiring the slave to push it), and the slave can push it just fine. This means it must be the clutch correct?

yah, sounds like it's on the way out. when you take it apart post some pics. Where did you buy the tranny? Sounds like it might have a few more miles on it.

The tranny and the motor came from Hmotors. The clutch was brand new when I bought it/install it. It, and a flywheel, came in a combo package that i bought from a sponsor on Honda-tech. The clutch has went through approximately 20,000miles.

Honestly, there is nothing like tearing apart the head, and putting in a setup that you've owned for months and months (Jun cams and valvetrain for God's sake!)...i'm sad.

Ok, that sounds like the problem, but the thing that is really bugging me is that i've had 0 problems out of that clutch setup, and all i did was leave the car sitting for like 6 days, and all of the sudden, it is broken? Give me a break! However, that seems to be the only possible problem since all other possibilities have been ruled out. You know, "If you eliminate all logical solutions to a problem, then the illogical, however impossible, is invariably true."

Mine never had a problem either.
then tried to start it at the track and it did, but would not go into any gear
got it all apart and there were chunks of fiberglass and clutch material
but that's a whole nother story.

things to check:
seized pilot bearing
air in the hydraulic system
broken, cracked clutch release arm
damaged clutch hub or damper spring
defective clutch disc

just from what you are describing it sounds like the clutch disc blew a spring. I have had the exact same thing happen to me.

similar thing happened to my buddy on his project H22 del Sol. What happened with his was that he washed the engine one day, but then it sat for several weeks on jackstands, and I think the clutch disc sort of fused itself to the flywheel. He had to pull the tranny off and get the clutch disc loose. He just sanded the friction surfaces lightly with sandpaper, put it back together, and it works fine now.

That was my thought AT FIRST, but then it didnt make a lot of sense since the car was never put into motion and it never gave any sign of messing up. Like, it worked when the car was last used, then it never worked again. It went from "car working...then it was shut off and worked on, then it didnt work".

Ah ha, now that I think about it, it started doing a pretty light, but substantial rain, after I got the head off and perhaps this moisture somehow did the same thing to my tranny as it did on that h22 you speak of, patrick. Well, i'm working on and off in the rain right now, but the tranny is about to come back apart and i'll get back to you guys as to what is the problem because i'm quite sure i'll see it when i open it up. By the way, thanks fellas for all the help.

Ok, just for future archive purposes, I found the problem. OK, during attempts to take the crank pulley off in the headwork, i was using my impact gun and i wasnt getting enough power...i tried and tried and kept impacting on that bolt but to no avail. So I turned the pressure up to 150psi (equal to 950ftlbs on my gun) and it popped it off now problem...ok, so now for the picture.

Each impact was done while the flywheel was at such an arc that the 2 bolts that appear loose in that pic just kept loosening under the vibrations due to the impacts travelling from the crank pulley, through the crankshaft, and into the flywheel. It backed that one bolt out enough that it was rubbing the clutch and keeping it from working like it should. Notice how that bolt is slightly polished off...

considering the flywheel is bolted down to about 80lbs and the impact was able to move the bolt out that much I hope you didnt shift any bearings, because it would suck when you're driving and you test out the new valve train and you throw a rod, *knock On wood*
