rebuilding cable transmission
i need some information on how difficult it is to rebuild a cable tranny. I have a ls out of a 93 integra and a b16 tranny out of 93 gsr. both of them have 3rd gear out. I want to rebuild them the right way, not just bits and pieces.
So your looking to rebuild BOTH tranny's? As far as the "rite way" do you meen back to stock? If you going to rebuild them contact Gearspeed, for prices and parts, they might be able to help.Cable tranny's are getting harder and harder to find. You might just want to spend $500 and get a new(used) one. Sometimes HMotors has them in stock. If all else fails, /yourself.
I want to rebuild them to stock, yes is correct. if posible if may want more. I do know that stock cable tranny are too find. i will kow more this in a couple days when I break into them.
I plan to have my ls tranny to use in a turbo set-up and my gsr tranny in street use.

if u have both trannys i would put the ls's 5th gear in the b16 tranny because, the gears are so short in a b16 that highway speeds suck for gas mileage. u can get carbon syncros from gearspeed and any thing else u need from them.

Who did you talk to? I've called before, and they quoted me $500. Are you talking about a B16 tranny, or a LS tranny?
ef 4 door : have you started on the tear down yet?

If your going to rebuild it just go ahead and buy the syncro sleeve kits. from my expirience, the syncros arent usually the most worn parts on a honda tranny. The syncro sleeves usually get rounded off.
with the syncro hub kits (which gearspeed and honda both sell) you get the syncro sleeve, hub and syncro. They come in sets of 1-2, 3-4 and 5th gear. you wont always need the 5th gear set but the first 4 are usually pretty shot in and older cable tranny.
just thought id give you a little heads up... the first tranny i did i just bought the syncros for it. took it apart and realized i needed the syncro sleeves as well.. which could only be bought in a set.
your better off rebuilding than buying another trany that will prolly be just as bad in a couple years

Buy the factory manual for each transmission you are going to work on.
Take the transmission apart and then contact Gearspeed (James) and get a price quote for the parts you need.
On some transmissions, Honda doesn't sell just a syncro sleeve; it comes with the gears as a set and that adds up the price real quick.
What I'm getting at is that you should be prepared to have cost go beyond what the transmission is worth.
So, have a dollar amount in mind as to what it's worth.

I have started the tear down last night with both of my trannys have been worn down. the b16 tranny is ok but need the gear replaced, the teeth have some wear. what year is the tranny....ie make and model for the proper rebuild info!
also the ls tranny has busted bearing (both)where the syncros are at. need to clean the tranny and put in a part washer. in re to the thrid gear wearing out, but not bad

third gear, I also been told that if you swithch the diff in the tranny you can get the best of both worlds......my ls tranny will work greta for a turbo set up and the b16 will have such a great close ratio setup. is this true?
the reaon that I might plan on changing the gearing is because a freind changed his diff with from a ls tranny. he has a gsr and replaced the diff? he pulls a whole lot harder. I will post the pics of my tranny in the nexzt few days.
