we all LOVEEEE buying used cars.
so here is my story, i hope you all enjoy it and learn something from it.
so ive wanted a DA foreverrrr. i had two efs and wanted to get a da. so i saved up money, and started searching autotrader and two other sites. i really really wanted a gsr that year, but it was getting tough with that. i started off looking for those, and i would get up in the morning, and look on the site, and then i would come home from work and get on the site, and if anything new came on the site, i would call them right then, didnt care what time it was ( yeah, i was THAT guy). so after getting a WHOLE bunch of "its already sold" i was starting to lose hope.i started searching for just ls and gs, getting the same responses. then one day i got online and found one in my price range, but.... it had no milage, price, and picture posted. all i knew was it was white, and stick, thats all i wanted. so i gave this kid a call. i told the kid that i wanted to come look at it, and we met up. the car was pretty clean, im not gunna lie. exhaust needed fixing, and the diver side window, thats about it. i asked the kid who lowered it and he said he didnt know. i didnt believe him.
then i wanted to drive it, the kid agreed, and we took a drive around the block. no funny noises, no shakes, no problems. i was stoked. i gave the kid the money and signed all the papers. the kid got into his buddies truck, pulled up and said with a thumbs up... "have fun with it man, it runs GREAT!"
famous last words.....
ive had the car for about two weeks. i was saving money to take it to my machanic and have him do a FULL tune up and check the car out. i didnt make it in time. on tuesday, i took my car in and got the window fixed, the exhaust fixed and a whole bunch of other things. i pay him $400 for the work. i say to him before i leave. oh yeah, theres this bird like sound coming out of my hood, can you check it out? he takes a look and he says, its your clutch. ****.
i drive him from his shop, and my car wont go into third. "expletive, my clutch is going out" i say as i strugle to make it back to my machanic. i make it.
i call him the next day and see whats going on, he tells me that my bushings in my shift linkage is RUINED, and my tranny mount is broken, and of course, my clutch.
$500 to fix everything. parts and labor. im in a hole now, not doing good.
so then i pick the car up next day and drive to work. i make it about half way to work, before my car just shuts off on the freeway. i down shift trying to save it. no luck, i down shift again.... no luck. i pull off the freeway, and call a tow truck. im so mad, im not even mad. im past the point of mad. and i know its not my machanic, because ive gone to him for YEARSS and never had a problem.
so my car gets to the shop, and the first thing my machanic says is, "man, i dont want to work on your car anymore, i feel bad for you." in the joking way. i get sad when he tells me my timing belt broke, and i should cross my fingers and hope my valves didnt get ruined. i die a little inside thinking about that.
this time i lucked out. he fixed the timing belt for $250, and i didnt need a valve job. sigh* thank godness.
so the lession in my story is.... dont trust people with used cars who tell you, "runs great" with a thumbs up.
and the lession is. jordan from riverside is gunna get his teeth knocked out.
thanks for listening to my story.

...yep, that's buying a used car for'ya.
Like you said, there were no signs of problems when you test drove it, but it becomes your problems after you buy it. Don't blame the seller.

Next time buy a car from the oldest person you can find thats actually been taken care of. I would never buy a car from a punk kid like me.
that sucks man, see I bought my car thinking ill will break on me cuz I bought it for really cheap, and the title is salvaged but I had no problems til I started to modified, its a black 97 rs that I bought for 1200, well since is a used car and it has no warranty i have to take it off the insurance and save money to get it fixed cuz I'm really broke, so I feel ur pain man
welcome to the world of buying a used car. Guess you should have looked into the car a little more before you bought it, and not rushed in to it so fast. Its not the kids fault, so saying youre gonna break his teeth is pretty gay. Or, you could break his teeth, and end up paying the kid even more in a nice court settlement and possibly land yourself in jail. Instead of taking it back to your mechanic so many times, you could have looked in to how to do some of the repairs yourself and saved a lot of money.

Some people just don't understand that handing a man his teeth is meant to be funny.

sorry i missed yours. I'm a little senstive about the subject since i've sold cars that ran perfectly and had the new owner complain about **** that went wrong down the road, and its real annoying.

Sounds to me you were too eager in buying a car and didnt look over everything thoroughly. When you buy a used car its usually "as is". The seller isnt to blame, he didnt made you buy it with a gun to your head or anything.
yea man seriously. its no1's fualt but your own. wen u buy a car its sold as is from a private seller. its not his fault at all.....u couldnt tell the clutch was going? you should have asked for mateince records for the timing belt. honestly i dont think its "jordans" fault at alllll.
if the clutch was that bad, would you not be able to feel it when you took it out fo ra test drive? Any time i test drive a car i take he rout on the HWY and do a good 100-120 “KPH” on her for a good 5 min to see if she has any hidden secrets. That will not insure she is 100% but it helps. Sorry to hear about the $$$ loss. The kid had to have known there was more to meet the eye. If he didn’t', he is not that bright and is a mechanics best friend.

I second that, i bought a car that was listed here on HT a few weeks ago, that was supposed to be in great shape with about 30xxx miles on the rebuilt motor. After driving the car home it seems it burnt a good amount of oil, and noticed that if i sat idle for a bit white smoke would start coming out of te exhaust. Long story short had the car checked out at JE and it seems the #2 cylinder has a 19% leak
Don't trust peoples word, if you buy a car have it fully checked out before any cash is given up, it may save you some money and heart ache
