vtec not wired, redline 5500?
SO i just swapped a b16 into my eg, as many of my threads in this forum have pointed out. I do not have a pin to wire vtec into the ecu connector, so i have to wait to get one from honda. My question is, is dose this not let me rev past where vtec engagment should be? i tried getting on it, and as soon as i hit 5500, it hits the rev limiter. dose the ecu cut you off there, if you dont have vtec wired up?
the vtec pressure switch has a blue wire, and a black wire comming off of it. i wired the blue wire to pin d6, and the black to ground. is this correct? or do i need to run the black wire to an ecu pin?
Using a stock ECU or a chipped ECU?? I've seen converted non-vtec to vtec ECU do this but never a OEM Vtec ECU. Black is ground and Blue runs right to the ECU providing this is the OEM plug. The Pin closest to the Tab goes to the ECU the other is the ground. Are you just needing an ECU pin?
its a chipped p28 ecu. it is a cx so it wasnt wired for vtec, so i was running a wire right from the pressure switch, through the firewall, and into the ecu connecor (d6). and i ran the black one to ground, but the revlimiter is still hitting at 5500. im not throwing any codes except for my IAC valve, even when i disconnect the vtec pressure sensor all the way.... i called phareable.net, and they assured me it wasnt an ecu issiue

if you throw a code for your iacv it can shut off vtec, limp mode. not sure if this helps just thought i'd put it out there.
thanks for the input guys. heretic:si , im not sure, but i dont think an IACV failure/code would throw the ecu into limp mode, i beilive that you only go into that if you get a really messed up reading from your map sensor, or other input to the EFI system that controls fuel maps/ignition maps.
I'd still try another ECU or cut the jumper in the ECU it would be J1. it sounds like either the fuel map isn't changing for vtec, rev limit is set wrong, or there maybe a full throttle switch which isn't working correctly. Seen all of the problems in the past, but even if V-tec isn't engaging it still would rev past 5500.
i resolved the issiue. and i definitly feel like a fricken idiot. somehow i wound up putting my cx ecu back in the car, after i took out the chipped p28 to inspect the chip.
sorry for wasting your time guys, thanks for all the input though

Yea I'm having the same problem. I just swaped a b16a in a 92' 4dr civic and it runs on a chipped p28 ECU, its set at 8500 redline,4500 vtec,8100 check engine light for shifting,no knock sensor, and it is wired with vtec. but the rev limiter is kicking in at 5500 rpm and I'm taking it back to the guy that did the swap to see if it is a wireing error, mechanical error, or if the motor is bad, but as soon as i find out what the problem is i'll let u know
