Royal Purple 10w30 into tranny, good or bad??
Okay Ive always been told to run this stuff in my trannies never have but i picked some up today with those intentions in mind, but i started reading some threads at the top of the Forum FAQ, and guys are saying not to run synthetic oil, are they right just run Honda MTF??? Am i going to experience problems running the Royal Purple??
i was told the same thing, and i'm running RP in my tranny, since the beginning of the year and so far no problems. hopefully it's not doing anything bad to my tranny in the long run.

Synthetic motor oil in a transmission is BAD news. Transmission synchronizers rely on friction to function properly, and synthetic motor oil is just too slick to work correctly.
So yeah, by all means use synthetic engine oil in your transmission if you want to tear it up or just don't care about it.
<-- has over 270K on original tranny internals, been using GM Synchromesh Friction Modified for well over 120K miles without issues. Stuff is great, IF you can still find it.

i do water/wastewater engineering, we design huge centrifical pumps, reducers, etc. and most manufacturers require royal purple in their gearboxes. just a tid bit. ive run a lot of different fluids in my honda, including rp. so far mt-90 is the best i think.
you should have used the royal purple syncromax gear lube rather than the 10w30 engine oil.
engine oil is designed for the engine. in the manual it states only use engine oil when the MTL is not available or something like that.
use the oil designed to work with gears/transmission.

hey i was wondering how much tranny fluid does a teggy take cuz i think im needing a new fluid change but since there no dipstick anywhere... i cnt really measure it and also i was wonderng what grade should i use for tranny fluid i was going to use RP or Mobil but now that i hear synthetic works well for engine not tranny i was wondering if you should throw in Lucas and wondering how well that worked? and does anyone know what grade i should put in car has 200k miles Thnx in advance

Tranny takes ~2.5 qt., but you just add it until it runs over. Just get Honda MTF. It works great and it's not expensive. Make sure to keep it off any rubber parts, esp. the CV boot which it eats through very quickly, and which is also very close to the filler hole for the tranny.
There's no dipstick because the tranny fluid doesn't leak and won't burn off the way oil will eventually. You should just change it according to the service schedule (3 yr. or 30,000 mi I believe).
Also, since your question is a bit different from the OP's, you might have been better off starting a new thread rather than bringing this back from the dead.

O my bad well i thought it was a bit similar but also mainly i hvnt used this account long enough to start my own thread so i had to write it here... and thnx i didnt know it wuld chew up my cv good call and i should just get the quarts str8 from honda then do you know how much do they charge for them there? and i guess its good that the tranny dont leak out like other then even tho makes it a bit more of a hassle works btr for the owner
o damn that fukin sucks nah i just went with honda MTF dont wna risk it hey i need a supar fast answer when i took out the drain plug for tranny only like a drop came out does the car have to be running for the fluid to come out? or does this mean it was just EMPTY!!!
Yeah, because there's no level line, you just fill it until it leaks out of the fill hole. If the car wasn't level, you wouldn't know if you were putting in the right amount of fluid.
maybe a dumb question but damn just surprises me like there was maybe lesss fluid that fits in my hand inside the tranny i could hold all the fluid in there if i cup my hands together thats crazy!
There are a few possibilities:
1) it leaked
2) it was never filled properly
3) you didn't drain it properly
Are you sure you loosened the drain bolt and not the filler bolt? I know it's a dumb question but I'm just covering all the bases. If you jacked from the front and loosened the filler bolt, a little fluid might come out.
Was the threaded part of the bolt really really wide, and it had a normal (15mm or so) 6-sided head, or was it about the size of an oil drain plug, but had a female 3/8" square socket hole on a round head?
