h22/f20b oil pressure questions
well depends where are you tapping the gauge from, before the oil filter or right after. on my f22 i have a little tap right before the filter, and on cold starts i have 80psi + at idle
ok cool
i was concerened that when cool the car runs around 70psi but im running 10w40 as opposed to 5 20 that i think the f20b (2000 engine) calls for . around 3000 rpm it can be up around 100. once the car gets warm(good period of time ), fom a stand still the car will hit 80psi around 3000 rpm but then it will come down to (drops instantly)60psi,
it will do this on every gear change if the shift lands me under 3000rpm. i was thinking the pressure relife valve wasnt working right or its just my choice of oil
thanks for the reply man
oh and im tappedinto the oil pressure sender
and its an auto meter sportcomp mechanical

i would use a lighter weight oil, but this high presure also has alot to do with the oil filter you use. I was using HAMP filters and the presures were even higher, i used a fram generic and i still have pretty high oil press but not that bad.
the presure releif valve is probably opening and bypassing oil and when the rpms drop back below 3k it closes. once my car is warmed up i have 60psi at cruise, and like 10-15psi at idel , and this is at like 210F collant temps.
it right be benifical to tap the oil presure sender AFTER the oil filter and check presures. I think the filter is what is causing these higher presures.. switch to a lower weight oil and you will be better. i never use anything heavier than 10w30
sound slike you experiencing normal conditons for a heavy oil and cold start

awsome , thanks man , yes when warm crusie is 60 for me as well , and idle is 15 to 20 .
ill drop the oil down and see how it goes.
i use fram filters now and the only reason is that i change my oil alot and it doesnt warrent using an expensive filter but i might try out the s2000 filter next time .
appreciate the answer man
