3,000 rpms cut off??-
Today, I was driving my car down the highway for about an hour or so when all of a sudden, my car just lost alot of power and would not go past 60 mph or 3,000 rpms..It started making this wierd noise like my axle was knocking up against something, but I didn't see it hitting anything. Would anyone know what is possibly wrong? Any help would me much appreciated..
Thanks
Thanks
when you throttle it, how does the car respond? If it is a rough response and very hesitant, you might have fowled out your spark plugs. Replace them.
Oil starvation will limit the engine to 3000 rpm on a 5th Gen. I get this in autox alot. The knocking sounding could be a resultant internal engine damage.
Whenver I throttle it, I have the same response as always until it reaches 3000 rpms, thats when it hesitates and won't go any further. The kocking sounds comes and goes away....I checked the oil, and I had enough.

when i fouled out my spark plugs they looked fine also. when i replaced them my car ran 100% perfect, i recommmend buying a new pair and seeing if this is your problem. you dont have to go out and buy 15$ plugs necessarily, but the problems i had sound like the ones you are having. you might want to swap out spark plug wires also. good luck

I changed out the plugs, and its still doing the same.....Do you think it may have something to do with the tranny? I have about 90K miles on it
Could your catalytic converter be melted or clogged up?
autolite plugs. They are cheap, but do a decent job as test bitches when you just wanna "rule something out."
Also, I'm not a guru on 5th gen electronics, so I might not be much of a help here...
But I would start with the basics. How long has it been since you've changed the rotor button and cap? What kind of gas are you running? Have you checked to make sure the dist is still on correctly and not retarded or advanced too much? Are your plug wires still good? If the oil pressure is low for some reason, or the sensor that monitors it is bad, then it could cause this. How many miles do you have on the motor?

If you hear any engine Knock, you engine is blowen or has no oil..... The only thing that ever might cause this is your Cap and rotor. your engine is not getting spark causing the rods to misfire and knock.

when you give it gas does it knock? Check you tranny to see if there is any fluid in it.
sounds like multipul things, but first sounds like a broken axle/broken diff. why it won't go above 3k is beyond me....broke crank? thats the only part that would also prevent the car from moving at all.
