Purchased car with alarm, dont know how to use remote
The alarm is an alpine SEC-8447A. Yea, I believe its nine years old. I have one remote with two buttons on it.
The small black button says EXT/VAL on it, while the large seafoam green button says TX/PANIC
The guy who sold me my car says that he has it on Valet now and it only does keyless entry/exit. He didnt tell me anything else about it. I dont believe the alarm is armed because I can enter/exit the car even when I locked it via remote and nothing goes off.
There's a siren under the hood right by the drivers fender and there is a switch under the dash which the seller said is for the alarm.
I cant find anything online about this model and the guy doesnt have any booklets for the alarm. Basically I'm hoping all Alpines (or at least older ones) are built the same and I can somehow make the alarm arm/disarm when locking/unlocking the car.

Well if it's the same as my Alpine SEC-150R alarm. What I do is I turn the car to ignition on and then I press the button until the led either goes solid (valet), or blinks 2 times I believe (normal mode). Check with FCM he likes alpine alarms.
try holding the ext/val button down for a few seconds.
If the LED turns off then your now out of valet mode.
Then try arm/disarm

Yeah, this ended up working for me. Thanks a lot.
Alarm is really quirky though, sometimes when I get in the car and start driving, the locks will lock by themselves. When I turn the car off, the alarm will arm itself after 10 seconds or so. It did that a few days ago when the door was open!
I now understand why the guy had it in valet mode.

You have a pretty good alarm, [are you sure about the model number SEC-8447a there was no "8047a" there was a SEC-8027A [8447 would be the remote] if you have the SEC-8047 I have the SEC-8048, [same alarm w/dual stage impact]
It is important to know what the alarm model number is, found on alarm, the remotes were interchangeable, you will also want to reprogram the remote, [and erase all other remotes] all Alpine alarms come with 2 remotes.
If it is a SEC-8047, then as has been mentioned you will want to change the programing, [passive arming to active arming] although Alpine alarms only passively arm when ign. is turned off, if the alarm is then disarmed it will not passively rearm, [unless auto rearm is programed]
The Alpine SEC-8047 has 2 valet modes "full valet" and "armed valet" you put the alarm into full valet with the under dash switch, [pull and hold switch untill LED comes on (about a 1 sec. flash] you use the valet button on the remote to put it into armed valet, press and hold untill led comes on, [about a 1 sec. flash] the LED does NOT stay on when in valet, [why let anybody know the alarm is not armed
] it will however flash on for about 1 sec when you turn off the ign. or open a door on the car.
You can put the alarm into full valet with the under dash switch only and into armed valet with the remote only, however you can take it out of either valet mode with either the switch or the remote, BTW armed valet means when in armed valet anything wired to the hood/trunk input lead is automaticly armed, [even if you do not lock the doors].
Your alarm comes with a dual stage radar sensor, outside zone, [warning only] inside zone, [full alarming], the outside zone can be turned on/off with the remote, [press and release both buttons], siren will chirp 2 times for on and 3 times for off, you can also just turn of the warning chirps, [outside zone] by "flicking" the under dash switch on/off 3 times within 5 sec., [alarm must be disarmed and not in a valet mode] the siren will chirp 2 times for off and 3 times for on, the park lights will still flash
The LED flashback, when you disarm, [alarm triped indicator]
1 flash doors
2 flashs hood/trunk
3 flashs radar
feel free to IM me if you have other quentions

PS programing is all done with dip switchs and resistors inside the alarm brain.

wow...I'm not going to lie, I'm extremely lost.
To attempt to respond to you...the first line on the back of the remote is "Alpine SEC-8447A" Its a dark gray remote.
Okay, I just got up and went outside to check. I looked under the dash and found the brain box. It says "Alpine mobile alarm" SEC-8058.
I was going to try and ask questions about the valet mode and such, but since its a different alarm than the ones you listed I'll wait for you to respond back to my discovery.

Yes that will change things a little, although only that it is even a better one then the SEC-8047, it is version of the SEC-8048 and like the SEC-8048 it has both dual stage radar and dual stage impact, both separately adjustable for both the warn a way, [soft impact/outside radar zone and hard impact/inside zone.
It came with the SEC-8447A and SEC-8448A, [3 button] remotes.
It also has an number of other features/capabilities.
Programing is done the same way, [dip switches and jumpers inside the main brain]
Valet functions are the same, except "armed valet", when programmed, is press and release the valet button on remote, [ the button can be programed for valet or EXT].
Again, feel free to IM me if you have questions.
