Air Conditioner Filter
Does anyone have instructions on how to change the filter? My air conditioner started blowing out a funky smell after I moved to California and someone told me I should probably try changing the filter. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
It's most likely mold buildup due to non-use of the A/C. Try an evaporator core cleaner and odor removal system with DWD2 System or replace evaporator core.
Go to an auto A/C specialist and they should know about the above.

Put the windows down and turn the fans on high - then spray Lysol (or other anti-bacterial spray) into the vents right in front of the windshield.
You can alter cold/hot for maximum effect, but that will clear out any crap in the system.

I never thought of Tweakmeister's idea but it's good
What I have used in the past is a product by Quest called Auto Air Conditioner "Odor Out" that used to be available at Pep Boys. I actually got a bottle that they didn't sell on their main shelf anymore but they said Pep Boys stopped carrying it.

MOC (http://www.mocproducts.com/)also has a nice smelling product that I like better than Odor Out (which has no smell) simply callled "MOC A/C Odor Treatment" which if I remember, you need to get a hook up from a an automotive dealer...
These require you turn on the A/C with the highest fan setting, spraying the stuff inside the vents outside near the windshield (be sure it is not in circulation mode). with all windows closed up.
Let it run for 5 minutes and then roll the windows down for another 2 minutes.
I was reading the directions for the Quest product that you can turn to recirculation mode as well and there is an intake in the passenger side that you can spray in the inside of the car. You can do a test with a napkin to find out where it is sucking in from. If it takes the napkin, that's probably where the intake is.
I couldn't find it in my friend's Toyota Corolla and never bothered on my car (passenger side). I never have issues anymore though
Whenever I use A/C (only used when I have guests in the car), 5 minutes before I reach the destination, I will turn off the A/C and let it run. Then when I get to the destination, I turn it off as normal. Once I stop having guests in the car, I turn the fan on and let it heat up a little so it doesn't get too "cold" in the ducts. So far it seems to have worked
I also don't get the leaking A/C water from the condenser (I think that's what I see sometimes when people run A/C and just turn it off when they reach the destination).
