Default 1990 Tranny Trouble

I have a 1990 honda accord lx 4 dr. Let me get down to the problem. The tranny wont change gears some days and other days it will. You know how when you first put the shift lever on D (auto tranny) and start to accelerate well my car will start to accelerate real slowly and then eventually gain speed but it wont change gears. it just accelerates but wont change gears and when im doing about 70 mph im probably around 5500 RPM. what could be the problem. Tranny fluid is good and no leak. See, other times i will start the car then put it on D and it will drive fine, it will go up to 3000 RPM and change gear. It will do this on and off. On some days it will change gears normally and on others it wont change at all it will just remain i guess stuck on a gear and drive in it through out the whole ride. when i stop at a light then light turns green it will slowly gain speed and still wont change gears. Anybody have any suggestions? im thinking about doing a manual tranny conversion, any suggestions on that as well? how much do ya think it will cost me? im estimating about $700.

none, when i put the shifter on D the light is green as its supposed to but there isnt any blinking. i also think that my dash doesnt work because my car is leakin oil, and it never shows the oil warning sign...............

What was the last service done on the auto trans?

Wild guessing, you might need to change your Auto Trans Fluid and perhaps that might be all that is needed, but then again the shift systems and stuff might need work. Would you like to change the ATF yourself and then go from there?

I'll repeat the question. Does the 'D' light stay on when you turn the key on?
Meaning Key ON Engine Off
Not Engine running and moving the shifter, that wasn't the question.
