Default intermediate shaft

i just got my car checked out from my friends dad who is a mechanic and he said that the way my axles are angled isnt good and can cause some possible damage.

he said that the way they are is when they come out of the transmission they have to go back to the wheels. he said if the motor could be pushed back a half an inch or so it would be fine. i have a b16 with the hasport mounts. i am also using 90 integra ls axles

so my question is, will this cause damage or is it fine i dont have anything to worry about??

A couple of things you should take into consideration- how low is your car? also what kind of knuckles are you using? I have the same problem you have, and i am using integra knuckles w/ civic upper contro arms. I need to get some integra control arms, and raise my front end up a bit, cuz its too low. when turning left at 15-20 mph, i get a nasty vibration from the axles binding....... thats about it....

ohh and ya, you might get flamed for this question by some dum *** "honda tech god" who knows it all...

well, if the axles are not making any noise, then you shouldnt be worried about anything. Check your rear mount, make sure all the bolts are tight...

Alright well I put the car on stands. had a friend turn the wheel and the sound appears to be comming from the passenger out tire rod end. I can shake it up and down, and i cant move the driver side one at all. The ball joint where it hooks to the hub assembly is all destroyed and has no grease... Could this tie rod end be my problem? Please Help ASAP!!!!

ok so i just talked to hasport and they said that the y1 tranny with there mounts makes it so the axle from the intermediate shaft needs to be longs,

so my question is can i take a different intermediate shaft which is longer and use that???
and if so what intermediate shaft can i use???

<U>From how you describe it, it sounds like there are a lot of issues that should be addressed before assuming that the axle angle is causing your problems.</U>

This statement is made in light of the fact that you are using Hasport mounts (which do a good job in placement of the engine / transmission), you have replaced the axles a couple times, and that you are at a near stock ride height.

Your mechanic friend is correct that having the axles angle rearward (to the wheels) isn't ideal. However there are a lot of cars running around in this condition and as I said above, Hasport does a good job with it's placement.

Moving the engine rearward is difficult (or Hasport would have done it) due to clearance issues.

One issue is the alternator hitting the frame rails. The further rearward the engine goes, the worse the problem gets (the frame rails angle inward as they go toward the firewall).

Another limiting issue is having the metal rear transmission bracket clearing the rear cross-member. This is shown in the fact that you most likely had to "clearance" the cross-member.

But back to the original question in regards to axle angle; you would have to be an engineer who designs CV joints of this type to say what angle is reasonable and when it would be the limiting factor in regards to how much torque you can pass through it. I don't know of anybody who posts on this site that is qualified.

Wes (ya, I'm an engineer) Vann

ya now that you said that, that does make sense.

so now the new question. is there another axle from another car or intermediate shaft that i could use to give me the extra inch or so on the drivers side??? i know hasport has axles specifically for this swap but i just payed for school so im kinda limited with money.

any ideas????

As far as I know, all of the intermediate axle shafts that would fit are the same length.

Wes</TD></TR></TABLE>i don't think so. It really depends on what type of intermidiate shaft you have. in case you have one from a integra xsi, then you can use the 90-93 integra axles, if you got one from the crx sir then you have to make your own. I just don't remember the combo in the top of my head, I think i'm also having this problem and i'm 2.25 front and 2.5 rear drop. i'm raising my ride to 1.75 , 1.9 repectively. I'm also changing my sway bar link , bushing (due to unstability after 70) ... my steerign wheel scares me

i have the same problem as (ef9ontime) posted and was wondering if anyone knew what the problem is and how to fix it? i get a nasty vibration only when i turn left. it seems like the axle is to long. has anyone tried using the 89 integra axles? would they work? thanx in advance

well what transmission do you have? cuz i talked to hasport and they said for the y1 tranny you need a longer axle on the drivers side, so i that im gonna order the hasport axles and that should fix what i have going on.
