Default cel 6 water temp sensor

my maintenance light has been on the past week and i haven't had time to do anything because of work, on my way home a little while ago i started smelling coolant and looked to see that my gauge was all the way up. 5 mins from home and cel comes on, i get it home then smokes everywhere. found out it was cel 6, so my question is if i replace that sensor and coolant (obviously) should i be fine?

unfortunately this happened after spending 3 hours at the dmv to get tags and transfer the title to my name.

What was your Temp guage at? was it on hot all the time and you were driving around with it?

Yes go change your theromostat and rad cap if you never have done so before.

Check your coolant levels...which are probably low now.
Go replace your thermostat...I had the exact same issue and I bought a new one for 13.00 bucks, installed it and now the car doesn't overheat

i actually found one on an integra board, but thanks anyway.

just got done replacing the thermostat, but when i was putting coolant in it started coming out of a tiny hole near the top of the radiator. so i guess i've found myself a new problem. the cel did go out though, but i still have a the maintenance light flashing when i start it up.
