Ticket!! ...kind of a funny story (long, with Cliff Notes)
So, I'm coming home late from work and going around this "35 mph" corner, in second... taching about 4500. As I'm pushing through the corner, I push the throttle and kick into the high cam. I'm taching about 7500 (what a glorious sound!) as I'm cornering and I come face to face with a cop going the other direction through this corner. Yes, I could have seen him if I was looking, but I was looking at the road, several seconds ahead, not the oncoming traffic.
Well, the cop had his window down... and an ITR with AEM, Mugen header and a Mugen Twin-Loop exhaust makes a bit of a racket at that RPM. Needless to say, I got his attention. So, despite the fact I quickly upshifted and went into a much more casual driving posture... he flipped a "Dukes of Hazzard" 180 and was on me before I could duck off the next side street.
He comes up to my window with flashlight in hand and GUN DRAWN! "Good evening officer..." was all I said. Being an adult, I complied with all of his instructions.. but MAN, was he pissed. He barks at me - "Have you ever been arrested for reckless driving?!!?!?" I thought he was going to have that vein in his neck pop, for sure... He got me out of the car and sat me on the curb, yelling at me, "If you're gonna drive like a knucklehead, I'm going to treat you like a knucklehead.." He gave me "the lecture" about how I was so dangerous and there are kids and pedestrians and I could'a killed somebody and no one ever plans on having and accident and it's all fun and games until you... yaddah... yaddah... yaddah...
So, he stomps off back to his cruiser to write me a ticket (or call a tow truck so as to arrest me for reckless driving, for all I knew) and I'm just chilling there, sitting on the curb. BTW - those of you who remember avatars, mine was my licence plate - "
2 REV"; I figured I was hosed for sure. It must have been 10 or 15 minutes before he came back and talked to me...
He told me he was cutting me a break and he had no problem with hauling me in on reckless driving and how he has a 100% conviction rate on every time he has cited someone for that violation. He goes on to tell me how he'd worked traffic for so long and although he didn't measure it he was an expert at estimating speed and he had me going "well in excess" of the speed limit. So, I was appropriately contrite (he'd already written the ticket, so I had nothing to gain) and I said (truthfully) that I hadn't had a ticket in 3 years or so and I was looking forward to my insurance rates going down and all...
At that point, out of the blue, he asks me "is this a real Type R or did you just put the stickers on it?". Somewhat annoyed at this age-old question, I quipped, "you should know, you saw how fast I was going" (not like a smart-***, but in a friendly, joking tone). Well, he took it in the spirit it was said and chuckled saying, "keep it off the street, that's what track days are for..." So we spoke for a few minutes about HPDEs and a few different tracks and such. He got much friendlier as we talked (which isn't much of a stretch, considering he was about ready to shoot me when he pulled me over) and his tone softened to "I know these cars are a lot of fun to drive" and offering me advice on going to traffic school to avoid too much fallout from the ticket - which he still gave me, of course.
Well, about this time, I see that my lights (headlights and USDM fogs) have started to dim, considerably. I've known my battery has been kind of weak for a while (it's the original) and I pointed that out (since I didn't want to leave without "permission"). So, I turned off all the electricals (it had been so long since I have gotten a ticket
I forgot to turn all that stuff off while I was waiting for the ticket to be written) and tried to start the car. Nothing doing. The cop seeing me try to start it and fail came over and asked if I was ok. I told him my battery was toast and I might be able to bump start the car, so I was going to try that. I was right behind a parked car, so I told him I was going to do it in reverse as I was stepping out of the car... (for the uninitiated, reverse IS the lowest gear, thus minimizing how far/fast the car has to roll to turn the engine enough for a start).
So with a wave of his hand the cop tells me to get back in and proceeds to give me a push! I was like... "Thanks...". So, I move like a yard or two, pop the clutch and she fires right up. The cop walks back to the window and says - "Drive safe... and take this car to the track!"
Thank you, sir... Yes, sir... I will.

Dude, the guy let you off of reckless driving you should be happy about that. Reckless driving is 2 instant points and no traffic school. A ticket is nothing if you have a clean record and take traffic school.
