Default F4i and 600RR tranmissions...

Now I have a F4i and my good friend has a 600RR, and dammit the only reason he is killing me is because of the transmission gearing... Does anyone know if it is possible to swap the gearing? I know it just wont drop in but is the mainshaft the same size? Can the gears be pressed off and onto the F4i main shaft? Someone please let me know.....

Secondly does anyone know ths sizes of the same clutch baskets... Only asking because the 600RR has after market baskets and the F4i doesn't .

Thanks
Rocket-Doc

He's probably just a better rider......

Orrrrr, you could just change the final drive gearing, which on a motorcycle happens to be the two sprockets that run the chain. So, just go down a tooth in the front, and up two teeth in the rear, and you'll be pulling on him all day.

Umm actually no he's not, we not only road/track race, we also drag and it's the drag that he is killing me in. It's the dead straight aways that are the problem...

I'd change the final but we both do alot of distance riding on the bikes.

and ummm please stick to the questions at hand, I'm not an idiot.

Honestly, when yer blaming the bike's gearing with a vague statement that you're not as fast thats the kind of response you're going to get.

Anyhow, whats wrong with changing the sprockets? Yer freeway rpm will be higher but not that much higher. Its not gonna kill yer gas by a lot either. -1 up front +2 in the rear. Or you could go +1 in the rear if you still want some more top end and not have yer rpms as high.

You sure make it sound like it. I had an F4i and there wasn't a bike that I couldn't keep up with. Sure on the straights an r1 would pull away but I wouldn't be that far behind him. I assure you that there is not nowhere near the differnce between an f4i and a rr that there is between an f4i and a new r1. if your drag racing maybe your launches suck *** maybe your shifting at 9,000 rpm.

Anyway, gearing isn't going to make your bike unridable on the freeway its just going to make your revs higher. drop -1 up front or something if your really worried about your revs...but seriously if your worried about reving at 9k intead of 7k maybe you should get on a literbike...

Here we can plainly see that the 600rr makes more hp, more torque, and has an extra 1k rpms on the tach. That alone gives it the advantage over the F4i.

And looking at the gear ratios of the two bikes, the F4i has taller gearing, mainly because it was designed more for commuting and city riding. This is not to discount it as a sporty motorcycle, because it is, it's just not as sporty as the RR.

Seriously, if you want to go faster in a straight line, change the sprockets.

The difference between the bikes is not going to be that noticible in a straight line.

precisely. If you put the same rider on both bikes (which obviously is not the case and therefore a factor) the RR would still be faster. I don't see what the problem is with changing the sprockets. If you somehow magically managed to put RR gears in an F4i you'd accomplish the same thing. So save yourself some money and get a 520 conversion and change your tooth count. You're not sacrificing anything for long rides, and you'll be satisfied with the change in torque.

we don't need your sarcasm. I gave you the answer you need to pursue. You're never going to drop RR gears in to your F4i transmission as they are completely different transmissions.

Yeah, because all bikes with the "CBR" designation have interchangeable parts.

Considering the amount of work you would put into swapping a 600RR transmission into the F4i, not to mention the costs involved, it would be much easier to buy a 600RR after selling the F4i. Your franken-transmission-F4i would end up being less reliable than the stock.

Ok you guys are ridiculous, I was told I suck ***, and called a lazy bastard, and your going to call me on my sarcasm......

Per a friend at the dealership I found my answers and the gears are usable.

I asked for a factual answers not your opinions on what I should do, and you guys automatically start assuming like ******** that I'm a noob because I'm new to this forum, thats real smart ... I guess all you guys were noobs till hitting this forum.

Just because I want to do something that isn't what you guys do you have to start acting all tough... Anyone know what a Clutchflite transmission is? Yeah the people that made that must have been noobs to because ... well you didnt do it......

This thread is awesome.

You want to change your gearing to the same exact thing as his but in the end his bike will still have more tq. and hp.

You're really going to get the jump on him now

******* awesome.

honestly, you're still not getting it. Why spend whatever amount of money you're going to spend to get his gears, and end up still making less power than him, when you could have just done something like -1/+2 and been faster for under $200???
We're not being *** holes, your question just does not make sense monatarily. It'd be like spending a bunch of money to put an RC51 exhaust on your F4i when you could have just bought an aftermarket setup and been better off: beyond not making any sense, it's just not worth it.

your friend at the dealership, did he mention that when you swap the tranny parts, you may have the exact same tranny but he has MORE HP and torque than you? what does that equal out to smart guy?
