bumper support removal
I am pondering this idea tonight as to reduce weight in my car even further. Oh well i guess i am in that stage right now. The more stripped the better. My question is: will not having the bumper supports pose any problems in potential accidents? Aren't these supports only good for 5 mph and less or something along those lines? Thanks for any input.

Does anyone on this board have their bumper supports removed?? I do, but I forgot to weigh them....anyone got information on this
I think it weighs 15 to 20 lbs at the most. I have one sitting in my room right now. Maybe I'll walk it over to the post office later tonight.
Edit: scrap the 10 to 15 lbs...I think it's closer to 20...I could half-curl it like 15 times with one arm.

i think its a total of about 40 lbs or so... they're not light and they are at each end of the car causing it to actually weight it down more. its a big difference without them on the car. how they are bolted on, they probably wont fo much. the front, on the LS at least, is bolts onto a radiator support so its not even helping structural rigidity... but i can see it helping to protect in an impact. do what you will... either way the car will crush like a soda can in an accident. But i think the impact beams serve to divert some of the energy to the sides instead of right into the radiator and cooling fans and other integral parts of the engine.
just be anorexic or go on a diet
I dont see how SCCA or any other racing organization would let you run without those bumper supports cuz its all about safety at a track and covering their asses.

I've been driving with out front and rear support in my car for several years... and my car actually sees tons of track (road racing) time too. you can call me dumb/ignorant, or call me confident.
in anycase, it only weights 35 lbs or so front and back, it is not worth it to pull off in most cases. just leave it in. with out the support beam/foam padding, any minor bump you have with other cars will give serious damage to the car.

I won't even remove the bumper supports in my race car. What, you think bumper bashes don't happen while racing?
Same reason why I left the side impact beams in the door, despite the fact that my driver's door is gutted and has a NASCAR doorbar extending into it.

My point was that it makes more sense for a track only car that has additional reinforcements than a daily driver. Still stupid IMO, but better than putting other people's lives at risk.
I think Acura forgot to put the support in my car... I looked behind the rear bumper and didn't seen chit.. Will the insurance cover in this case?

The front yes but not the back. You can see it when you look underneath the rear bumper. The car was bought new. Never been to any shop or back to the dealer. The car only has 12k miles (00 ITR) and I've been doing all the tune up myself. No one has driven my car except me (as far as I know)..
Now let the court hearing begin... I wonder who will win. If I win, I'll treat all the SoCal members to the original King Taco.

The information I have tells me that it is extremely stupid to daily drive a car with no bumper supports in order to save 25-30 lbs.

I think you'll regret removing them. Or at least, I would not be willing to take that risk. Although it says it is a 5mph support, it can save your car from excessive frame damage and etc... Up to you though. Good luck
Bumper supports and radiator core supports are easy to fix. A bent frame is much harder. Same goes for minor side impacts. Doors (and their side beams) are easily replaceable, but if it hits my cage, it's probably going to deform lots of stuff. And if you don't have a cage, well...
