d16y8 block and d16z6 head question
Before anyone says anything, I've already searched and there is no clear cut answer, some say this fits and others say another thing fits.
Here's my dilemma, I am in the process of putting a Z6 head onto a Y8 block and this engine is going into a '95 civic coupe automatic. The reason I am doing this is because my sister's Z6 motor, specifically the block, bit the dust. Since I have a spare Y8 block laying around, I figured I would bolt the original Z6 head, that is in perfect shape, to the Y8 block. I'm going to keep it OBD1, and reuse the harness that was on the original Z6 motor. Now for my questions:
- What headgasket do I need?
- What timing belt do I need?
- What water pump do I need?
- Will I have any troubles with CELs if I keep it OBD1 and reuse the P28 ECU?
- Will I be able to bolt up the original '95 civic ex automatic tranny to the Y8 block?
- Will all the motor mounts and accessory mounts (a/c, powersteering, and alternator) bolt up to the Y8 block?
If someone knows the clean cut answers to my questions please respond.
Thanks in advance.

yes ive done this. let me clear up a couple things.
88-00 d series head gaskets are all interchangable. vtec or not. the y8 is the best. get it.
timing belt needs to match the head. in think the y8 belt is the same as z6. both 1.6s
water pump needs to match the block. so a y8 pump. a d series rule
no check engine lights of my experiences
not too sure about the automatic tranny
all mounts and accessories will bolt up.

timing belts are the same, get the y8 hg, same thing, better material. (metal)
I just put together a Z6 block, Y8 head motor, you can see the specs here:
You won't have an issue with the dizzy, or obd1/2 issues since your using the z6 head like I did, but you will have issues with the head studs, probably opposite to me. The Z6 studs will be too long, you need y8 studs. You may need a custom stud in one corner, I did. I was origionally told buy the studs for the head... WRONG! buy em for the block, as a result, I have a set of brand new ARP D16Y head studs FS. (95 shipped if you want em
)
Other then that, I really don;t think you should have any issues, they are basically the same thing, especially the block. Feel free to pm me with any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
