GSR engine Wiring Harness OBD2a vs. OBD2b
Like title says, any difference???
I pulled a harness off my '97 GSR, but it was frayed and cut, so i bought a used OBD2a harness. Problem is that the harness I received is different then the one I pulled off. I think the guy either a.) ripped me off or b.) maybe sent a OBD2b rather then a?
Do the harnesses differ by year? I have a helms but I havent had a chance to match it all up yet, any help would be appriacited

U should be able to use it. I'm used a 2000 type r harness in a 95 gsr. NOw i'm using that same harness in my 98 itr...

Its just the main engine harness under teh hood. The plugs to the ECU in the car I pulled my harness off of are definitly OBD2a.
The differneces between the harness I pulled and the harness I got are that the one I pulled had 34 connectors, and the one I got has 33. That means one connection wont have power in my car. I've tried to figure out which plug on mine is the extra one, but its hard to tell b/c the two harnesses use differnet color wiring.
All the main connections like injectors, starter, alt. etc. seem to be the same.
BUT, toward the middle of the harness the wires are bundled together differenty.
I'm going to draw up a scetch to show you guys.
I think the extra plug on my harness might be the plug to open the secondary butterfly on the I/M of the GSR. Does anyone know what size this plug is, or which color wires?

okay Heres a Scetch of the wiring harness I took off my GSR, has 34 connectors

Here is how many pins each plug has:
plug 1 = Grd
2= 14
3= 4
4=10
5=3
6=3
7=2
8=2
9=2
10=13
11=2 (thick wires)
12=8 (yellow wires, end is covered...)
13=2
14=1 (green colored connector)
15=2
16=1 (plug)
17=1 (power to alternator)
18=4 (to alternator)
19-22=2 (injectors)
23=4
24=2
25=GRD
26=3
27=3
28=8 (7 are small, 1 is thicker)
29=1 (plug)
30=2
31=2
32=2 (green conector)
33=1
34=1 plug
NOW, heres the harness I bought.... has 33 plugs

Here is how many pins each plug has:
plug 1 = Grd
2=14
3=4
4=10
5=3
6=3
7=3
8=3
9=2
10=2
11=12
12=2 (thicker wires)
13=8 (yellow wires w/ end covered
14=1
15=4 (Connector to alternator)
16=1 (power to alternator)
17=1 plug
18=2
19-22=2 (injectors)
23=2
24=4
25=2
26=GRD
27=8 (7 smaller and 1 thicker)
28=2 (green conector)
29=1
30=2
31=2
32=1 plug
33=1 plug
OKAY..... so its one plug short, AND I matched up some plugs and ther is a few with differnt sized connectors:
ON the GSR:
plug#7, 13, and 15 have no match to the new one
ON the New one:
plug#18 and 24 have no match on my GSR
I'm guessing its safe to say this new harness is not a good replacement for my GSR one???????

well this may sound retarded but if you add up the number of pins from the 3 plugs on your harness and the 2 plugs on the harness you have that don't seem to match up, there are 6 pins on each. Did you find out what each of the wires connected to these pins was for to see if they were the same?? if so i would make sure all the other connecters matched up to their appropriate receiving end and try to modify the other plugs or wires. just a suggestion. let me know what you find out about the wires that don't match up.
