Possible trouble with GC and KONI install.. Need HELP!
Hi!
So I bought Koni yellow shocks and GC coilovers for my EG Civic hatch.
The problem is my setup is a bit different from which I've seen out here in forum.
Here are pictures of what's going on..
Here is my setup:

So the differences of other/usual setups:
a) My GC sleeve ir a bit wider
b) So now GC sleeves sit on spring perches

b) Is it dangerous and it can't be used like this or I can let it stay like this???
c) How do you slam your cars? I am not sure but I feel my car sits on bumpstops already. How to make shock/spring work properly and go lower???
Hope for some answers, opinions and suggestions. Thanks!

the wider sleeves that i believe you have are not to be used with koni's. and not to be used with the silver koni perches. it is not safe.
GC mades sleeves specific for koni. thats what you see in the second pic. you might be able to call GC or Koni for some adapter ring to make the wider one work.
youre probably too low for good handling if you are on your bumpstops. if you insist on running low and suffer poor handling for the sake of looks, then you would benefit from GC extended top hats.
dont forget to align your car once youve settled on a ride height.

Does it mean GC makes two kinds of sleeves for this car or I got coilovers which are not for 92-95 Civic??
Any other opinions?

The first one. GC makes two sleaves. 1 for koni only and the other for 'other'. Go ahead and give GC a call.

I guess I'll make adapter rings for my GC sleeves.
<< As they sit on my car already, can somone please measure inner diameter of GC sleeves for 92-00 Honda Civic which aren't specific for KONI yellows??? >>
If someone have tem laying around and could do this for me I would really appreciate it!

hrm thats odd i tried to get new sleeves from them and they said that they didnt want to take the liability for someone piecing together a coil-over/shock combo.

you got the gc kit for stock shocks on eg civics. since the stock shocks on the eg civics are bigger in diameter than the koni shocks, you are going to have that gap, and like tyson said, this is not safe.
its not really a sense of wheter or not the gc sleeves made specifically for koni shocks are made for your civic, it just that the sleeves have to be designed to fit the shock you are putting them over.
where did you order the set from? usually they will ask you what kind of shocks you are putting the GC sleeves on so thay can get you the appropiate sized diamter.

Still need help!
Still need help!
why are you asking ppl to do this? im not wasting my time which will tell you no more than just looking at that picture that its not a koni specific sleeve.
Why? BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE ADAPTERS SO THEY COULD FIT MY KONI YELLOWS.. I already know that it's not KONI specific sleeve.

Please, please call Ground Control and get the right coilovers.
Somebody would buy the ones you have, I am sure.
For anybody else thinking of doing this, you might want to consider buying the shocks and coilovers from GC at the same time. It's only slightly more expensive than the best price you'll find on Koni Yellow, and at least you'll know that it's being sold to work together.

It's going to be more expensive, than to make adapters.. I live in Europe and I bought GC coils (used) on ebay.

If you have a metal lathe or mill you can probably make them yourself. You have to make sure that the adapter fits over the snap ring and "captures" it. Koni used to sell washers that had a step in them for this purpose, but I think they stopped selling them. I was going to have some of these adapters made (GC used to make them too, but stopped) and I got the dimensions from Koni. I have these measurements at home and I think I still have the CAD file too. If you have access to machine these then there should be no problem.
This is a cutaway of the type of design I was going to make (note this is totally not to scale)

Basically the adapter slips over the koni shock and captures the snap ring. Then the GC sleeve slips over the adapter and rests squarly on the sholder of the adapter. If you make all the parts fit together nicely then you should be ok.
I'll see if I can find the dimensions needed for the Koni shock

This is exactly what I want to make!
I have no access to machine like that but I'll give it to people who works with it.
It would be great if you could post proper dimensions!

I have a GC sleeve in my parts bin if you still need the inner diameter measurement. Just let me know & I'll dig it out this evening...
Thanks Lee!

Yeah the ID of the GC sleeve would be great, even if it's just added to the thread for future reference
