Bad Kitty
I think I have a bad cat but I'm not sure how I can tell. The check engine light came on and the trouble code says the problem is "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold". Is that a problem with my cat? Are there any physical indications that point to a faulty cat? There's over a 100K on the car and I have bad valve seals, so Ive been blowwing excessive oil throught the cat. Will that eventually cause problem in the cat? Help.
Excessive burned/unburned oil entering the catalyst will cause it to fail. It sounds like your cat is shot to me. Get the oil burning problem fixed and then replace the cat.
