Default HELP PLEASE!

HI EVERYBODY MY NAME IS ADAM, IM NEW TO THIS FORUM...

IM TRYING TO SEEK HELP MAYBE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME OUT...

SO I BOUGHT A 1998 HONDA ACCORD V6 EX ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND IM JUST A COLLEGE STUDENT BUT EVER SINCE I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT THE TRANSMISSION WHEN IM GETTING NEAR A REDLIGHT AND COMING TO A STOPPING POINT IT SHIFTS DOWN HARD AND SORT OF DOES A QUICK THROTTLE CHOKE TO SHIFT DOWNWARD, I HAD CALLED THE SELLER AND HE TOLD ME THAT YEA IT HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND EVEN THOUGH HIS CAR WASNT UNDER THE RECALL PROCEDURE BUT WERE KIND ENOUGH TO DO SO FOR HIS SO THEY HAD REBUILT HIS TRANSMISSION, WELL ITS BEEN ALMOST 2 YEARS HE SAID AND I TOLD HIM THE TRANSMISSION IS ACTING UP ON SLIPPAGE AND I TOLD HIM IF I COULD GET THE PAPERS OF THIS ACTUAL REBUILDING PROCESS BY HONDA. HE IS GOING TO LOOK FOR IT, BUT IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN GET HONDA TO FIX THEIR OWN CRAPPY REBUILT JOB, I MEAN IF THEY JUST REBUILT IT IN UNDER 2 YEARS WHY THE HELL IS IT ACTING UP AGAIN. ANYWAYS ANY ADVICE WILL HELP, I DONT HAVE MONEY TO PAY 3-4K FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION NOT GUARANTEEING THE CAR TO RUN AT LEAST ANOTHER 5 YEARS. THANKS EVERYBODY.

ALSO MY DAD SAYS I SHOULD JUST DRIVE IT TO THE GROUND AND THEN REBUILD THE TRANNY, BUT I LIKE THE CAR SO MUCH AND I DONT WANT TO PROLONG THE AMOUNT OF TIME SINCE THE ACTUAL REBUILDING. THANKS

blah, its hard to read with all caps on...but I guess make sure the seller is telling the truth and in fact it was really rebuilt before, and normally dealers warranty their jobs for a period of time...so if it was in fact rebuilt then see how long their warranty is...also I wouldnt drive it to the ground before u rebuild it because more things inside will be damaged and the rebuild will cost more...as a last resort I would just call up the dealer and ask if there is a recall on the transmission, I believe there is for v6's under 100k and for the original owner ONLY.

Sounds like a bull story to me. Honda just doesn't rebuild transmissions out of the kindness of their heart. Also, if Honda does work on a transmission, unless its a minor problem, they will swap the whole unit out with a factory rebuilt unit. IE: They will not rebuild the whole transmission there at the dealers.

If the transmission otherwise performs normally, I'm suspicious that this downshift is a trans problem. Are you sure your not two peddaling during stopping? Keeping your foot on the gas slightly will cause this, my wife does it all the time and complains the car is jerking while downshifting. Check your habits and if your taking your foot off the gas completely, and it still downshifts hard see that your idle is set correctly. You can also check your trans fluid. It should be light pink in color and smell like a light oil. If its dark red, brown or any other color, and/or stinks like cooking electronics, double flush the trans fluid and replace with genuine Honda ATF.

If in fact this trans was rebuilt, and I doubt it was. Why would it break down so quickly. Because the original owner was a jerk who did not take care of the car, and/or abused it. Its that simple.

See and thats the thing like upwards shifting on the highway or in the city is fine, its just whenever i get into the second gear or onward and like im coming to a redlight or a stopping point from that speed (usually 40 something) after letting go of the pedal to start braking the minute i let go of the pedal and the speed gets lower as it goes to back to the first gear near the redlight, i feel it choke sort of like a violent jerk and the rpm suddenly jumps from the 2 range to the 1 range.

Man this is so ****** frustrating cause i love this ****** car and i cant believe my luck everytime i get a car somethin has to be fucked in the ***, whyyy! lol

The automatic will downshift in those cars. It talks about it in your owners manual if you would look and see. If it is not slipping going from gear to gear or holding the gears out for a abnormal amount of time then I would say your trans is fine.

how about this, everytime im going down the hill it will increase its rpm and go into the next gear, and as soon as it gets back to a flat terrain it jerks back to downshift.

Like i have felt downshifts in other cars like the camrys and civics and man u dont even feel them downshift, this one jerks back violently when it wants to downshift.

don't waste your time with the trans. replace it asap it will cost you approximately 3500 to rebuild it properly and you should just spend the extra $500 for a DR evil trans to be installed. I wish I would have did that......

OP, have him go with you to the Honda dealer that did the work and they can reprint all of the receipts. My dealer can go back as 2001 (that is when I first brought my car to them for service). how many miles on the rebuild?

RD you advise is DEAD wrong, that trans is toast and in less than 1K miles he is gonna be stranded. One of the very first things that happens when these units fail is that you get the "jerk" when the trans downshifts. Next it will start slipping when it is cold and then no more 2nd gear and just before it dies, you loose first......

im not sure when it was rebuilt, he said alittle less than 2 years ago, and right now it has 135,000

I got it at 134,000 , um i had a reciept of some oil change he had last year and it was 121,000, so im assuming that it was around 105-115,000 when it was rebuilt, anyways im going to his house today to get the any left over papers he didnt have in the car, if he doesnt have it with him imma go to the honda dealer and take him with me to get the reciepts.

man my dad said drive it a few months and if it gets worse sell it, but im like expletive i dont want to cheat someone into gettin a bad car, and sure as hell people when notice it later when they come to look at it.

AHHHH expletive honda im never buying a honda car ever ****** again! Im going back to Toyota for good, my next car if i sell this in a few months i want a 2000 toyota camry le.

Im so mad right now, i trusted the honda name and ****** tranny problems not a good time when im spending out of state tution in california!

If the tranny was rebuilt 2 years and about 20k miles ago, it should still be covered under warranty. I've heard that honda gives 3 year, 36k mile warranty on rebuilds, but I don't know if it's transferrable to a different owner. You might want to look into that.
