Default custom exhaust

i got quoted for ~200 for a custom 2.5" catback system with mandrel bent piping. so im tihnking i can get some universal muffler to go with it and i should have a pretty nice catback , with out the mad high prices. my question is that i saw a dtm tanabe style muffler for $109. should i got with some generic muffler or pay $200ish for the ampexi n1 style. im trying to keep noise level down but i dont want something cheap and shoddy that falls apart.
any ideas?

Just be sure the manufacturer of the muffler is reputable and you should have no problems....A'PEXi, ES, Magnaflow, etc.

And don't forget a resonator if you don't want it to sound like a weedwacker. The longer, the better. Magnaflow makes some if you insist on brand-name.

you could try a magnaflow 22" resonator and a es oval muffler. very stock looking. you didn't specify wat size piping you need though.

will a custom exhaust comprised of 2.5" piping, 22" resonator and the Apexi N1 muffler be quieter than the Apexi N1 catback? what factors will go into the sound dampening besides the resonator length? pipe length? or maybe 2.25" piping? the only thing stopping me from buying that bad boy is the noise

also..anybody in the bay area know a good place to get custom piping done?

thx

Yeah, a good amount of noise is cancelled out by the resonator. But with an N1, your car will still be loud even after a 22" resonator. Remember, the N1 catback comes with a resonator too. The N1 muffler is simply loud by default. A regular round oval muffler (coupled with a resonator) will always be quieter. And yeah, 2.25" piping will be quieter than 2.5" piping. HTH
