AEM Cam Gear *Will they pass CA SMOG (VISUAL)*
Im' curious, do you guys think the aem cam gears will pass visual smog inspection. If I had a stock uncut valve cover it would easily cover them up. but only one i have is one that is cut. Im' curious if you guys think i'll have issues w/ the visual because of the gears.
most likely a smog only shop will notice it, but not the average joe smog guy.. jes make sure they are set to 0 before you smog it and it should be fine..

Technically, they are illegal. So any shop that actualy wishes to keep its smog license will fail you for it.
That aside, I have found dirty little shops that have passed obviously illegal cars before. They either don't know the law, don't care, or will take cash to ignore "little details".

from what some cops told me here in the bay area, anything you add to you car that is not factory, is indeed illegal.. i asked about the parts still passing smog and being carb legal, they didnt want to hear it...
it is illegal to adjust any part the is emission related (which includes cam gears since they adjust timing) unless it is carb exempt
it is also illegal to have any part of the timing belt exposed
if you covered the cam gears up with the timing belt cover and make sure they are not visible then the smog tech's will never know they were there
