Generally speaking....a clutch is supposed to be defined as flywheel, friction disc and pressure plate as one unit.
With that said, with standard "clutches" one can usually mix and match all 3 pieces with the wildcard being the flywheel as some prefer chromoly/aluminum etc.
Super singles are sold as one single unit and when weighed, generally and usually weigh less than standard 3 piece clutches. Their friction discs are metal, are thin with new types being carbon now.
They have the ability to provide exceptional response at the cost of driveability (sometimes). Due to the lightness of the disc, it should be easier on the syncros and gives the car quick gear changes/engagement with rapid accel and decel.
I recently swapped out my Spoon pressure plate, ACT disc, CM alum fly for an ATS carbon single and couldn't have been any happier.
