Default Attempting to swap a 92 h22a and tranny into a 97 lude

Hi All

I have a little bit of a dilemna, thing is I have two preludes both original JDM, a 92 h22a 5speed and a 97 h22a Auto I just purchased. I recently had the 92 block sleeved and built by Earl, and turbocharged. The dilemna is, I want to swap the whole engine and tranny from the 92 into the 97 prelude. I need to know what all is required to do this successfully. I know I need to get all the hydraulics for the clutch system along with the clutch pedal. what else would I need? I am also keeping the 92 manual (have an extra tranny), so swapping the parts is a no-no.

So are you doing a auto to manual conversion? Is that your intention?
Cause the engine and tranny will bolt right in (they use the same mounting points)

Yes. I am doing the whole engine and tranny swap, runnning the hondata s300. Is the obdII>obdI harness, gear shifter, shift linkage and hydraulics for the clutch system all i am going to need?

I hope you are aware that there will have to be some rewiring? There is the crank sensor that needs to be rewired plus you have to deal with the injectors. On the 97 they are saturated and do not use a resistor box where as the jdm engine uses peak and hold and requires a resistor box.

Ok...If I am using the complete engine from the 92 h22a, engine harness and all with hondata S300. Wouldn't it be easier to just use saturated injectors and eliminate the need for injector rewiring? As for the crank sensor, can't I just change the connector. I am of the opinion that using the S300 would eliminate any such issues.

if you are going to use the engine harness as well then you have nothing to worry about, you wont have to touch anything, but I would still use the same injectors that come with that engine since they are 345cc compared to 290cc in the 97...

Like my original post stated, I am using the complete engine and tranny from the 92 h22a. I have a couple questions:

1) Are the connectors between the firewall and shock tower the same on the 92 and 97 ludes?

2) Do I just add the resistor pack on the firewall in the 97?

3)Mention was made regarding the crank sensor. Is that wired into the 97 engine harness?

4)Are the axles the same length on the 92 as the 97?

Well to answer #2, yes, that is all you would have to do as long as you use the harness from your 92 because there is a connector that goes right to the resistor box.

And to answer #3, yes it is wired into the 97, BUT, the crank sensor on the 97 is down by the crank where as on the 92 its in the dizzy. As long as you use 92 harness your fine, you wont have to mess with any wiring... When I did my swap I had to rewire the harness so those crank wires would go up to the dizzy.

I really couldnt answer the other 2 for you.
