Thinking about getting involved in the scene. What's a good 250cc bike to start with?
Just as the topic states, I'm looking for a good 250cc bike to start with. It needs to be relatively inexpensive and possibly readily available used. I'm looking to purchase one mid summer or so. Thanks.
Get a Kawsaki Ninja 250. As a matter of fact Im gonna go buy one for my girlfriend possibly today. Its a really nice bike and we are both gonna take turns riding it.

Well , your other choices are somewhat limited : the 88-90 Honda VTR 250 Interceptors are cool little bikes and their V twin motor is more fun than the Ninja , but the paint schemes are -ahem- flippin horrid ! White/pink/teal and black/pink/blue are most common ,but the red/white/blue 1990 is a great looking little bike ( although most people selling em are pretty proud of em ; you can usually find a Ninja 250 for half as much ) The Honda Nighthawk is slow -even for a beginner 250 - , doesn't handle very well and is (IMO) a little on the homely side but you can find em cheap . The Rebel 250 is the cruiser version of the Nighthawk and I couldn't fit on one if I tried !
Really though , the little Kawi is an awesome bike for a beginner and there isn't much else you can get that'll give so much for the $ - they also hold their value very well ! Other bikes you could consider are Kawi EX 500's , Suzuki GS 500's , the Yamaha Seca II and if you're extremely lucky to find one pop up : Suzi Bandit 400 or the Honda CB1 and Hawk GT .

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll end up going with the Ninja 250. It seems there's a few of them for sale on ebay, and they are relatively inexpensive.
