if u want to keep the car. and need it faster
Kswap or Turbo are your only options
if u want a fun car, upgrade to good coilovers, get a larger rear sway bar, and upgrade to rear disc brakes.
As you have an 01 LX like me, u will need the adapter kit if u plan to run a rear sway bar. ( our 01 LX's dont have OEM sways stock)
Im going through a lot of crap trying to get my sway bar adapter kit shipped out, they've shipped the wrong part twice. Once i get it installed ill let u know how much better it feels, but everyone says its a GREAT upgrade.

dont waste the money on d17 your going to want a new motor in 3 months. luckily when i bought my car it had evo 2 catback and k&n performance intake. you will easily spend 3000 in the long run buying stupid things for the d17 when u can put that 3 g's towards k swap and have a real custom car that not many people have. a "head turner" .
If ur gunna spend $$, spend it on rims and suspension.
Nothing is more sexy than a RARE piece of JDM art on all 4 corners.
And nothing will **** u off more, than cheap suspension.

i meant cheap as in the hundreds, for example, 100-300 dollars, because poeple in this site say to just do a k20 swap like if it was nothing, but suprise its like 8 grand, so dunno wat they believe is "cheap", i dun want to be advised to do a ____ n when i ask the price they say "its about $3000 oh n also ur left nut to count for shipping".

For 300 and lower, get a RSX-S rear sway, and Progress adapter kit. As i said, i have yet to install it but EVERYONE says it makes a huge difference on their EX's, which come with a rear sway bar. So i can only imaging the amazing results we will get since out 01 LX's dont come with rear sways.
Also, a gooooood set of tires always helps.

$300 or less? Well, depending on what your overall goal with your car is, pick up some suspension components, like a nice anti-sway bar (previously mentioned), rear disc brake setup, Brembo blanks with Hawk HPS pads, stainless brake lines, Tanabe underbrace, or maybe some nice tires (205/55/16 Falken Ziex ZE-12's are $288 shipped from discounttiredirect). You know, somethings aren't just cheap to buy for our cars. Usually you have to spend some money to get any real performance increases.
If you had $500+, I'd say shoot for a partial rollcage or some serious suspension components. That way, you could really feel a change.

as with any car, intake is usually the first thing that is changed. Although you may hear that an intake may give you 5-10HP, it will rarely do that with a stock car. It WILL make it sound a heck of a lot better, and give the engine more air flowing to it. Next I would say headers, or a High flow cat if you want to keep it legal. If you do get an exhaust, PLEASE get an exhaust, NOT just a $30 can and swap out the muffler. That will make it sound like crap. Just don't do shotty work, and it will turn out nicely. Have fun with it.

You won't get 5hp out of an intake on the D17. You may see 5whp after an intake, header, and exhaust swap.

With the D17's, the engine doesn't respond well to aftermarket bolt-ons (like the intake, exhaust, and header combo). It's because the overall design of airflow dynamics has been extensively worked on for the D17-series. There's not as many shortcomings as it's predecessors in overall flow characteristics.
You'd need an increase in air pressure to make use of the increased flow capabilities. This means that you'd need either higher compression pistons, or boost pressure from a turbocharger to make use of available aftermarket intakes, headers, and exhausts.

basically what he means is that dont mod your engine unless its for turbocharging. or just swap out the motor for the K series. there ya go. toyomatt always makes it so hard

do suspension components, wheels, brakes, etc.. that can always help out any car regardless of what motors in it. I've got the same suspension setup on my car now that i had before the swap. well plus a underbrace.
