Well I have a budy of mines that has a 99 civic EX, and he is still undiced where to go with it.
Hes thinking about buying a B JDM series motor. or just going turbo on his D16 non-vtec motor. Please if theres any coments or recom. out there feel free to write.
THAX. BTW: its a daily drive!!

Depends on how much you want to spend... I went the turbo route.. A used stock greddy kit with intercooler and hondata s200b-$1600 An hour of tuning $160 = 202whp 195ftlb torque@10psi...
This was on a 98 hatch.. d16y7 non vtec..
Who needs vtec when you have boost... I did do the y8 IM swap.. Thats it...
For $1760 you might be able to get a b16 that would get you about 135 to the wheels and about 115lbs of torque...
Longevity wise I put around 50,000mi on my boosted motor before I pulled it for smog reasons.. It ran strong until the day I pulled it...
The only drawback is I had been through 3 trannies and multiple sets of axles.. The B series trannies and such are much stronger... You will have more room for power with the B as well...
Go with what you like.. Once you go turbo though its hard to go back....
By the way his 99ex should have a d16y8 which is a sohv vtec motor.. He could make 200whp easy with just a intercooled greddy kit and some decent tuning.. Either Crome or Hondata.....

Wait, I'm lost, if it's a 99 EX, it has a D16Y8 - which is a VTEC motor, so how is it non-VTEC? You swap it out for a non-VTEC motor or something?
As for the motor, D-series turbos are cheaper and you can punch more power out of them. You can run 200whp as a daily driver with a D-series turbo for around or under a grand.

d-series. but make sure u know what yur doing. talk to someone who has turboed there D and find out what they upgraded and if they have any problems. turbo d definately. the b series i think r overated. bisimoto's sohc all motor honda just ran 9.58. that proves that sohc can run em. and im happy if i run 12-13's
go b series, either a jdm b16, or if u really need boost, u can still build a ls/vtec setup for pretty cheap, and u'll be puttin more horses to the wheels in an ls/vtec compared to the boosted d series man, b series is what u want, trust me...
or get a b20 for around 700.00 and everything is about the same as b16 without vtec, axles and stuff. Get a b16 tranny and later could always go vtec.

I'd say it is a D16Y8, but I don't think they had VTEC on the valve cover in 1999

next time do a search before posting, noobie. we answer this question like 1,000,000 times a day.
but yeah, go with the b.

Turbo d is cheapier but the b will make more power. The question is how much money do you have. Also the h22 is nice and the k-series is nice too but once again how much money do you have to play with
