aggressive/stage 2 cams on stock valvetrain?
i plan on putting in stage 2 cams preferably skunk2's or blox type B with ti-retainers and valve springs, upgraded valves, and aem cam gears. And/Or will I need to do any other headwork? like upgraded valves, valve guides, pp, valve job..etc. If so, is there another way of using aggressive or aftermarket cams without doing any other headwork? btw this is on a stock gsr valvetrain.
the stock valve springs on a gsr will not like stage 2's moreover the stock CR on a gsr wont utilize the stage 2's potential...stick with stage 1's...there is a thing as overcamming a motor
i rather spend some extra $$ for stage 2, but without forking more then I should, so if i want to run stage 2, i need to upgrade the valve springs, retainers and valves?
yes you would need the valve springs and retainers....stock valves are fine...I dont think youre understanding what I'm telling you...You will be happier with the results on a stock bottom end gsr with stage 1's then you will on stage 2's...You do NOT have the compression to utilize the stage 2's on a gsr stock bottom end
you will need to upgrade valvesprings and retainers. don't need to do the valves. make sure you get a tune once you drop those in. but like the guy above said.. you will probably be overcamming with those. you should just pick up some bc3+

I see, that makes much more sense i didnt know about the compression part so yah..well internals was later on down the line. sounds..good so stage 1 will work fine with the stock valvetrain?
..cuz i plan on getting cams real soon. Thanks for the info guys

no stock valvetrain isn't fine.. i mean you can do it.. but it'll be risky even with stage 1 cams. just save and upgrade so you won't have to spend extra money down the road because you wanted to rush things.

stage 2 cams are freakin aggressive, its a guarantee that you'll F up something with stock valvetrain..i mean its unthinkable, you MUST upgrade your valvetrain
Stock valvesprings will not work for those cams, they will cause valve float and piston to valve contact. Stage one cams are ok on ITR valvetrain.
Depending on the milage on your head, replacing the valveguides while the head is open isn't a bad idea.

blah blah blah, i had skunk2 stage 1 cams on stock valve train and it was perfectly fine as long as u are not going over the stock revlimit, and i now have CTR cams in my car with stock internals...
i also have those s2s1's on stock GSR valvetrain for about 4 months now and they are perfectly fine. i rev to 8k and shift. once in a blue moon when i race sometimes i even go to 85k and then shift.
Take a look at this tread, it will give you a better understanding of cams, valvetrain, compression. It will slightly discuss lift and duration and help let you pick good cams because i think i remember you making a post about which cams you should use.
