My best friend went down.
Hey guys and gals, I know you guys hate to see these threads as much I do, but I thought I would fill you in.
My buddy John came over on his 06 FZ1. I asked him I could take it for a ride 'cause i haven't rode it in a while and i wanted to feel the liter power
. So I told him to get on my SV and we'll go for a quick "buzz". We ended up getting on the highway, basically boils down to, we went to merge to the right for an exit, he checks his blind spot a moment before i do, its an uneven lane with a ledge so he has to slow slightly and cut an angle. I check my blind spot, see a maxima coming FAST to merge onto the highway we were on. I look ahead and pray he noticed that maxima coming up behind, it was too late. In my mind i got the shriek of fear as i knew this car was gonna nail him. It nailed him from the back and shot the bike out from under him. He fell over the side of the hood and began tumbling, i had an absolute sense of worry and fear as I see my friend since 3rd grade tumbling down the highway. I pull the FZ over and run over to him. Amazingly, he's walking towards me on the shoulder. I ask him how he feels, anything hurting etc., basically all he had was a lot of road rash, 2nd degree burn level. The bad part is he always wear his shift leather jacket except this time. He said the first thing he thought when he hit the pavement is "why the hell didn't i wear my jacket." The good thing is I still have my best friend and he'll make a 100% recovery. My bike is probably totaled but its not my first concern. He's bandaged up and will be fine in a few weeks.
Also the lady that hit him was 3 times the blood-alcohol concentration so I think you get the idea.
Cliffs: Best Friend of 13 years got rear ended by a drunk driver on the highway riding my SV, walked away with road rash and a very minor bone chip in his wrist. He didn't wear his leather jacket that he always wears. Wear your gear fellow riders.

People like that should should have hot pokers jammed into their eyes so they can never drive again.

Thanks for the kind words, me and him agree he's a lucky SOB. The thing is if he had his jacket on, he'd just have some sore muscles today, I learned my lesson from it (i was in my joe rocket gear at the time). Also i think i'm gonna be stronger about avoiding the highway. He's said he's done riding, he was actually planning on selling his bike anyway, he likes dirt riding a lot more.
IF you guys have any tips regarding insurance and settling costs/issues i'd appreciate the advice, I know some of you have been through this before.
I got some pics of him and the bike, i'll try to get them up soon.

it was a combination of both, but i would say she was definitely hauling too much ***. When he checked his blind spot it was clear, and a second later i checked my blindspot and saw her car booking, and he was already commiting to merge. I would also say bad circumstances definitely aided highly. Its not like either one of them made a blantant mistake, it was like several bad circumstances occured at once. She was checking her blind spot while he merged, so just very unfortunate timing.
