Default CR-V offroad report OBX vacation 56k not too bad

A few weeks ago we took our 99 CR-V out to the OBX to see how it does in the sand. A lot of people have conflicting stories about them so we figured it was time to find out for ourselves.

I was very plesantly surprised of the outcome. It never got stuck or even drag bottom with two people and stuff in the back. We were in some fairly deep loose sand and it never even thought of getting stuck. Only once did it run out of horsepower (had it pulled into 1st with my foot on the floor)
I did notice at first when we went through the first sand trails on the southern sound beaches that the front wheels had to slip considerably before the rear wheels would grab and hold tight.

But later in the excursion it seemed like the cobwebs got blown off of it and it worked much better for the rest of the trip.

We later took it to the northern beaches with some heavier conditions and it worked flawlessly.

Not once did it get stuck or come close to it. So those of you that say cr-v's, elements, and other's can't do it here is your proof!

The only thing is to shift it manually if it's an automatic. and don't let it get past 2nd gear. The hondas that were "stuck" had left it in D4 and for some reason it won't shift right by itself (grade logic can't figure out whats going on probably). So all they really had to do was pull it into 1st and floor it.

Letting air out of the tires is key to successfully traversing loose sand. Try it next time.

If your tires are set right they are already at 26 psi. I let air out the first time and the second time i just left it at 26 and it still did great.
