Default Check engine light

First of all I would like to apologize if this question has been asked a million times before. I'm yet not used to the search function of this forum and it's driving me insane. I can't find anything that I look for. There is so much information that it just gives me a headache trying to find what I need.

Anyways, I drive a 1998 Prelude (M/T if it matters) and well tonight my check engine light started flashing at me while i was driving. Now it's on all the time. The car still drives normal and it does not seem to be bogging down.

My previous car was a Nissan 300ZX and I used to be able to run a diagnostic mode on the ECU and see what code it throws. Is there a way to do something like that on the Prelude? I would like to figure out why the check engine light is on and what can i do to get rid of it. My car is my work horse and I can't have it break down on me.

Thank you.

stop by any advance auto parts, or auto zone! they will check it out for you. Or run into walmart and buy and ODB2 CEL tester

Thank you for your reply, how much would the ODB2 CEL tester run for? I am seaching on their website trying to find it myself. Is that a plug and play or do I need to modify to be able to plug that and run the diagnositc?

you don't have to waste your money on an OBD II tester. You can just check it yourself easily with a paper clip. Here's a link to help you out http://www.hondaprelude.to/art....html

I didn't know you could check 5th gens (or any ODB2) like that. Learn something new everyday. Thanks
