Default Various maintenance and adjustment questions

Vehicle: 5th Gen, 94 Accord Ex, 4 Dr, F22B1 V-TEC, Auto Trans, CD5 Chassis, 160K

I have a few general maintenance questions just to be sure before I proceed.

Throttle Body (TB):

1. How important is the 10-12 mm slack at the linkage. What if it was at 8 mm, should I change it?

2. The part directly under the TB with a hose going into it, the Fast Idle Thermo Valve? Should it and/or can it be cleaned?

3. The Idle Air Control Valve in back of the TB on the firewall side, Should it and/or can it be cleaned? Btw, there are two hoses going out of it underneath, and as I understand it they have coolant in them. Of course, I don't want a mess, so, how is this best handled (I never saw an IACV with coolant going into it)?

Brake Stuff:

1. Helms manual recommends using a rust preventative agent for lubrication on the Rear Brake Calipers. I was always taught no lube of any kind near the brakes, except special grease for the backing pads, anti-squeal shims, or boot ends. Anyone know what Helms is referring to?

2. Helms manual recommends lubricating the Master Cylinder Push Rod with a Multi-Purpose Grease. Never heard of doing that either. I would have to open up the Brake Booster, I assume.

Throttle Control Lever: (the one near the trans/axle, under the battery tray)

Helms says that you can tailor the shift/lock up characteristics to a particular customer's driving expectations. You can adjust the Throttle Control Cable up to 2mm (0.078 in) shorter than the synchronized point. What is this about? (please elaborate). What would the driver experience, or how would it affect the vehicle, if this was done? Can fuel/mileage be increased?

I have cleaned this type of part on other vehicles and it prevents stalling at idle (from carbon buildup they get sticky). But never owned an Accord so I figure its best to ask. </TD></TR></TABLE>

1. Your referring to the throttle cable right? 8mm should be fine.

2. It could be cleaned but I dought it really needs it. It shouldn't hurt anything if you do clean it though.

3. You can clean that and probably should from time to time. It does the same thing on Accords that you've described happening on other cars.
